Job Description

Primary Purpose
The Academic Support Librarian for Health Sciences plays a valuable role in providing energy and initiative to the University of the Pacific Librarys research support and learning services. Reporting to the Director of University Libraries the person in this role collaborates with fellow librarians in delivering services to the University community. In particular the person in this position will develop curated collections provide research expertise and deliver educational services for the School of Health Sciences the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry and additional programs as needed on three campuses (Sacramento San Francisco and Stockton). The Academic Support Librarian for Health Sciences makes forward-thinking contributions to learning-centered academic support programs projects and services that advance 21st-century information access and discovery while fostering scholarly communications research management and digital opportunities. The Academic Support Librarian for Health Sciences contributes to a student-centered organization and is committed to examining and pursuing ways to address diversity equity inclusion and accessibility ( DEIA ) within the library.

Essential Functions
Develop and deliver a high-impact educational program that strategically targets evidence-based research-intensive courses and scaffolds learning outcomes in collaboration with health sciences faculty. Provides liaison support for assigned subject areas through library instruction sessions research consultations collection development and other related projects. Curate and manage the librarys collection of owned licensed and open-source resources ensuring alignment with the institutions academic and research needs and interests as well as fostering resource discoverability visibility and usage. Collaborates with fellow Academic Support Librarians and student-centered academic partners to support student success and retention through research consultations library instruction and other information literacy services and programs Partner with instructional designers and developers of innovative pedagogies to integrate library resources and library expertise into in-person and online education. Support digital scholarship and open access initiatives by providing guidance on data management digital humanities contributions to the institutional repository Scholarly Commons and other emerging trends and technologies. Contribute to campus information literacy goals and assessment and school accreditation efforts. Participate in local regional national or international organizations that advance library and information science in health fields. Serve on University and department committees task forces and teams and facilitate and participate in collaborative research projects and communities with faculty students and other librarians both internally and externally as appropriate. Support and educate faculty staff and students with federally funded research. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. Minimum Qualifications
Masters degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA -accredited institution or related field and minimum two (2) years of experience in medical health science or academic library or a directly related field. OR Minimum five (5) years of professional experience in medical academic or special library or a directly related field.

Preferred Qualifications
Education and Experience: Bachelors degree in natural or health sciences or relevant recent experience. At least two years of experience delivering educational and research services in an academic library medical library or health-services information center. Skills/Knowledge and Expertise: Demonstrated success in teaching and learning activities including understanding of best practices such as active learning project-based learning or evidence-based practice to transform student learning experiences and improve student retention. Passion for quality library services centered around student learning and realized through collegial partnerships. Experience with collection curation including the evaluation and selection of content in print and electronic formats and document delivery and resource-sharing services. Knowledge of Open Educational Resources ( OER ) and creative ability to support faculty with OER initiatives. Facility with utilizing technology to transform research and learning experiences. Ability to manage time and coordinate projects in a rapidly changing environment with a positive flexible and innovative attitude. Excellent organizational interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated capacity to work effectively in an inclusive and diverse setting with a deep commitment to supporting and promoting equity. Commitment to collaborative teamwork quality service and ability to work effectively in a user-centered service environment. Understanding of current trends in information literacy and academic libraries such as artificial intelligence sustainability open access etc. Specifically regarding instruction to help students and faculty develop critical skills for locating evaluating creating and using information effectively. Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures. Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice equity and inclusion in a university setting. Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.
