Job Description

Job Title:AIRFIELD ELECTRICIAN ASSISTANT

Shift Schedule:8:00 AM 4:00 PM Wednesday Sunday (Monday and Tuesday off).Overtime may be required. Subject to call 24/7 for emergencies or inclement weather. Must carry an Authority provided cell phone or other communication device when off duty.

(Six Week Trainingwill begin on the projected start date before transitioning into shift schedule)

  • 2 weeks 12:00 AM 8:00 AM Monday Friday
  • 4 weeks 8:30AM 5:00PM Monday - Friday

Starting Rate:$30.65 PER HOUR / $63749.68 ANNUAL

JOB SUMMARY:This position is primarily responsible for assisting with the installation maintenance and repair of electrical distribution systems and equipment related to airfield operations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:The following duties are typical for this position. Incumbents may not perform all the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

  1. Install maintain and repair airfield lighting systems including runway and taxiway lights approach lighting signage obstruction lights and rotating beacons.
  2. Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshooting of airfield electrical circuits and control systems.
  3. Conduct routine inspections to ensure compliance with FAA Part 139 and other regulatory standards.
  4. Maintain constant communication with Air Traffic Control and Operations during maintenance work to ensure airfield safety.
  5. Troubleshoot diagnose and repair faults in underground cable systems and lighting vault components.
  6. Operate and maintain specialized testing and diagnostic equipment; perform troubleshooting and bench tasks.
  7. Operate company vehicles on runways taxiways and other areas as assigned.
  8. Document maintenance activities inspections and repairs accurately and in a timely manner.
  9. Participate in snow and ice control operations and other severe weather events as required.
  10. Respond to emergency electrical outages or failures to minimize downtime and ensure airfield safety.
  11. Performs all other duties as assigned and directed.
  12. Administer and adhere to all Authority policies and guidelines.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:The following generally describes the knowledge skills and abilities required to enter the job and/or be learned within a short period of time to successfully perform the assigned duties.

  1. Skills should include blueprint reading principles of electricity and light machine shop work. Employees should be familiar with the installation of conduits fittings outlets motor troubleshooting techniques and repairs.
  2. Must be familiar with tools and general electrical safety practices.
  3. Must have the ability to work under pressure during emergency conditions. Considerable initiative and good judgment to determine causes of electrical failures schedule inspections and service equipment efficiently are essential.
  4. Ability to follow detailed written and oral instructions.

EDUCATION/TRAINING:

  1. High school graduate or equivalent.
  2. Trade school or equivalent

EXPERIENCE:

  1. Two or more years experience working with high-voltage systems is desired.
  2. On-the-job experience

CERTIFICATIONS:

  1. Certifications listed below are company paid and must be completed within one year of hire date.
  2. Airfield Lighting Maintenance Certification Offered by the FAA Airfield Lighting Professionals Association of North America (ALPANA) or Airports Council International (ACI)
  3. NFPA 70E Training Electrical safety in the workplace including arc flash protection
  4. OSHA 10 or 30-Hour Certification Construction or general industry safety and health
  5. CPR/First Aid Certification For emergency readiness during fieldwork
  6. Confined Space Entry Training If work includes manholes vaults or similar areas

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Possess a valid drivers license and must meet NAA driving record requirements.
  2. Ability to obtain and maintain eligibility to hold a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge as may be required by assigned job duties and responsibilities.

EQUIPMENT OPERATION: Various motor vehicles and snow removal equipment; extensive use of hand tools; conduit bender; general airfield lighting computer and related software; vehicle and field radios.

PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS:Persons with disabilities may be able to perform the essential duties of this class with reasonable accommodation. Reasonable accommodation will be evaluated on an individual basis and depends in part on the specific requirements for the job the limitations related to disability and the ability of the hiring department to accommodate the limitations.

The employee is required to bend squat push pull stand and walk extensively. The employee must be able to climb ladders with tools reach overhead lift and move objects up to 50 lbs. work in awkward positions and read blueprints and computer printouts. Employees must demonstrate the ability to perform these essential functions during their physical examinations.

WORKING CONDITIONS/HAZARDS:Exposure to refrigerants natural gas high noise levels high-speed equipment high voltage acids and alkalis extended hours during snow removal penetrating fluids paints and other aerosol/liquid chemicals. May also work at high elevations. All safety requirements set by the company must be followed.

DRIVING RECORD REQUIREMENTS: All drivers must be at least 21years of age licensed for at least 3years have the type of license required by their state for the vehicles operated and meet the following driving record standards.

Committing a Felony with a Motor Vehicle

DWI/DUI

Drug Offense

Eluding a Police Officer

Foreign citizens with no historical driving record available to us

Hit Run / Leaving the Scene of an accident

Lending an Operators License or Registration to Another

Open Container Violation

Passing a Stopped School Bus

Racing or Speed Contest Violation

Reckless Driving

Speeding 25 mph or more above speed limit

Suspended License History Drivers who have had 3 or more license suspensions as a result of moving violations

Temporary Operators Permit

Two or more at fault accident convictions

Vehicle Manslaughter/Homicide

Three or more moving violations within the past 12 months

Note: Texting or cell phone violations are considered moving violations because they increase the chance of being in an accident.
