Job Description

Position Title: IBHS Lead Psychotherapist
Location: Wilmington North Carolina
Employment Status: Full-Time

General Summary
The Integrated Behavioral Health System (IBHS) Lead Psychotherapist is responsible for overseeing the clinical quality supervision and delivery of behavioral health services to members of the North Carolina National Guard (NCNG) Reserve Components and their families. This leadership role includes direct clinical care supervision of behavioral health staff and collaboration with military and community agencies to ensure consistent high-quality service delivery.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
  • Masters degree in a behavioral health or social science field
  • Minimum of 3 years post-licensure clinical experience including:
    • Individual couples and family counseling
    • Mental health and behavioral disorders
    • Domestic and workplace violence interventions
    • Psychopathology and psychosocial assessment
Licensure/Certification
  • Current and valid North Carolina independent provider license (LCSW LPC or LMFT)
Core Competencies and Requirements
  • Strict adherence to HIPAA and Privacy Act regulations; ensure clients understand their rights and the limits of confidentiality
  • Maintain professional ethical standards in all clinical and administrative activities
  • Ensure clients do not disclose classified information
  • Proficient use of the secured IBHS Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system within Microsoft Teams
  • Stay current with relevant state and federal regulations and NCNG IBHS Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Attend NCNG IBHS continuing education and training programs including clinical research participation and system updates
  • Participate in the 24/7 IBHS Help Line rotation per assigned schedule
  • Provide behavioral health consultations and referrals to Military Treatment Facilities (MTF) VA TRICARE and civilian providers
Position Responsibilities
Daily Duties
  • Manage a clinical caseload of approximately 1520 clients
  • Provide clinical and non-clinical supervision of staff ensuring best practices in assessment crisis intervention and treatment planning
  • Oversee and ensure compliance with all documentation requirements in alignment with federal and state law NCNG SOPs and governing regulations (e.g. APA AR 40-66 AFI 41-210 DoDI 6490.08)
  • Review treatment plans and referrals to ensure clients are receiving appropriate services
  • Conduct regular audits of case files to verify adherence to evidence-based treatment modalities
Bi-Monthly
  • Facilitate Psychotherapist Team meetings focused on peer review clinical discussion and program updates
Monthly
  • Lead Health & Wellness Team meetings
  • Perform and submit written chart reviews for each team member.
As Needed
  • Deliver Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) briefings on behalf of IBHS
  • Report program metrics and trends to the G1 COR and IBHS Director especially those requiring command visibility or addressing unmet needs
  • Develop and maintain a referral network of local state and federal agencies and organizations serving Service Members Veterans and their families including those ineligible for military health benefits
  • Collaborate with internal and external support systems including:
    • Behavioral Health Officers
    • VA systems and community partners
    • G1 Staff Sections and J9 programs (SAP SHARP R3SP Yellow Ribbon Casualty Operations Survivor Outreach Services)
    • National Guard Bureau and Air National Guard Psychological Health programs

  • Psychotherapists may be expected to travel up to 25% of the time
