The Division of Juvenile Justice is recruiting to fill a Juvenile Probation Officer 1/2 position located in the Anchorage Juvenile Probation office on the campus of the McLaughlin Youth Center.



What You Will Be Doing

The Juvenile Probation Officer is responsible for monitoring motivating and supervising a caseload of both formal case and informal case juvenile offenders to address accountability facilitate community restoration and develop the skills necessary to lead productive and crime free lives as adults. The services provided to youth are individualized and focused on their rehabilitation building upon their strengths. This position will screen and process juvenile criminal referrals from the early pre-court services through the court process with supervision and case management. The position will facilitate communication and service delivery with parties to include: the youth their family attorneys the court service providers and victims of juvenile offenses. The position will develop case plans after coordination with multiple community agencies and treatment programs to provide trauma informed services for delinquent youth their families and victims. The position frequently represents the department in formal court environments and produces petitions reports documents and reports to the court most often under inflexible timelines.

The Working Environment You Can Expect

This position is co-located with the McLaughlin Youth Center a 24-hour juvenile detention and treatment facility located at 2600 Providence Drive in Anchorage. The Anchorage Juvenile Probation Office is comprised of four units of Juvenile Probation Officers and administrative staff with approximately 30 staff. The office covers the Anchorage bowl and beyond north to the Eklutna flats and south to Portage Whittier and Hope areas.


This is a full-time position with a 7.5-hour workday that will include an alternative work week schedule that may temporarily include a weekend workday as part of a newer employee rotation. This position requires the ability to be on-call/standby on a rotating basis on weekdays and weekends. Juvenile Probation Officers may also be required to travel periodically.

FLEXIBLY STAFFED
This position is flexibly staffed. This vacancy may be filled at either the 1 or 2 level depending on the applicants training and/or experience. The full range of salaries is listed above. Starting salary will be determined by the level of the position. If filled at Level 1 promotion to the Level 2 will only occur upon successful completion of the probationary period and required training as well as the applicant meeting the minimum qualifications of the higher job class and final approval by supervisor.
