Your role and responsibilities

The Engineers work within a small managed by a Senior Engineer reporting to the Principal Engineer (Construction). You will:

  • check highway designs for developments to ensure that the proposed layouts and construction of highway improvements and new estate roads comply with SCC guidance
  • inspect the construction of roads footways and drainage comply with highway construction standards specifications and design guides
  • arrange and document results of stage inspections and compliance testing for materials and construction
  • liaise with all departments regarding adoptions of highway as part of new developments
  • represent the County Council at external meetings sometimes in complicated and sensitive areas.

You willneed

  • appreciation of aspects of highway design and construction with regard to housing developments
  • ability to solve complex andwiderangingproblems and be a confident communicator with strong verbal and written skills
  • to be able to manage your workload and ensure key deadlines are met
  • tointerpretdrawings specifications and technical documentation.
