About the Faculty of Continuing Educationand Extension

Mount Royal University has provided continuing education to the Calgary community and beyond for more than 60 years. We offer more than 1000 courses and 100 certificate and diploma programs and have more than 50000 course registrations each year. Our courses cover a wide range of sectors including but not limited to social services business and health. These courses are offered in a variety of formats on campus online in the workplace and in the community.

About the Role

Mount Royal University offers credit-free Academic Upgrading courses through the Faculty of Continuing Education and Extension to prepare students for post-secondary studies. Students may improve high school grades or take courses they may have missed to prepare for admission into Albertas colleges and universities. Academic Upgrading courses are not eligible for credit towards a high school diploma.

The Department of Academic Upgrading invites applications for a contract credit-free Social Scienceinstructor for the Fall term which will commenceSeptember 5 2025 and end on December 22 2025.

The department is seeking instructors with the ability to teach the following course(s):

Name of Course: English 0130 (Alberta Education English Language Arts 30-1 equivalent)

Days & Times Offered:

  • Each ENGL 0130 class consists of 4hours lecture instruction per week during the fall and winter terms.
  • Classes run each week during the 16 week semester.

Course Description:

Students write paragraphs and essays of various lengths based upon ideas derived from the study of literary works and from other sources.

Responsibilities

  • Instruction: course delivery including preparation of course outline course activities lesson preparation and assessments and course Blackboard site
  • Instructors consult with the Lead Instructor and Program Coordinator but independently deliver the course and manage their own students.
  • Instructors are contracted on a per course basis.
  • Payment includes all course and lesson preparation and marking.
  • Administration: submit course outlines input final grades upon course completion and participate in scheduled program meetings.

Qualifications

  • The minimum qualification of a Bachelors Degree in the discipline is required.
  • Previous experience in classroom instruction is required.
  • Creativity enthusiasm patience and collegiality are highly desirable qualities for this position.
