Job Description

JOB TITLE: CAREER PATHWAYS COORDINATOR

REPORTS TO: Chief Academic Officer

NATURE AND SCOPE OF JOB:

The Career Pathways Coordinator supports students in their efforts to explore plan and prepare for work experiences while attending high school. The Career Pathways Coordinator collaborates with administrators school counselors and teachers to integrate career exploration into the overall educational experience. This position is also responsible for developing and delivering career-readiness workshops supporting the School-to-Work Program Early Work Release Program and internships. The Career Pathways Coordinator interacts with area businesses and post secondary schools to provide continuing education internships apprenticeships mentoring and career opportunities for students.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The Career Pathways Coordinator shall:

  1. Possess a Bachelors Degree( or higher) or have a minimum of five years industry/teaching experience.
  2. Possess a valid NJ teacher certificate or eligibility in a CTE field.
  3. Possess a valid NJ teacher certificate in Cooperative Education Coordinator/Hazardous Occupations.
  4. Hold a valid drivers license with no serious violations.
  5. Demonstrate the ability to use electronic equipment for word processing data management information retrieval visual and audio presentations and telecommunications.
  6. Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing using proper grammar and vocabulary.
  7. Provide proof of U. S. citizenship or legal resident alien status by completing Federal Form I-9 in compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.
  8. Provide evidence that a criminal record history check has been conducted and clearance has been given by the Department of Education or during the initial six month period provide a sworn statement that there have not been any convictions of a crime or a disorderly persons offense in accordance with 18A:6-7.1.
  9. Provide information that includes current/former employers within the last twenty (20) years in which the employment involved direct contact with children ; a written authorization that consents to current and former employers disclosing certain information; and a written statement as to whether the applicant has any employment history regarding child abuse and/or sexual misconduct in accordance with N.J.S.A.18A:6-7.6.
  10. Provide evidence that health is adequate to fulfill the job functions and responsibilities with reasonable accommodation pursuant to 42 U.S.C. 12101 and in accordance with N.J.A.C. 6:3-4A.4.
  11. Pass the State required Mantoux Intradermal Tuberculin Test as required by N.J.A.C. 6:3-4A.4.
  12. Meet such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.

VERIFICATION OF COMPETENCY:

  1. District Application resume and references.
  2. Required documentation outlined in the qualifications above.
  3. A minimum of three letters of reference from former employers teachers professors or other professional sources or copies of recent evaluations and observations of teaching performance.
  4. Applicable transcripts.

EMPLOYMENT TERMS:

The Career Pathways Coordinator shall be employed under the following terms:

  1. Work year of twelve months.
  2. Salary or hourly wage benefits and leave time as specified in the Employment Conditions and Benefits for Non-Bargaining Unit Employees.
  3. Conditions established by all laws and codes of the State and all policies rules and regulations establishedby the Board of Education (N.J.S.A. 18A:27-4 et seq.).

JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Career Pathways Coordinator shall:

  1. Develop necessary documents databases spreadsheets letters and memos as aligned with job responsibilities.
  2. Attend and actively participate in meetings with school counselors coordinators and other stakeholders in the local area.
  3. Participate in ongoing training to stay current with trends in local market demands and vocational education.
  4. Present information to classes about job shadowing internships and work experience.
  5. Provide career readiness classroom lessons including but not limited to preparing resumes conducting mock interviews and proper attire to send them to job sites.
  6. Provide individualized and group advising to help students align their educational and career goals with their interests abilities and vocational aspirations.
  7. Provide assistance with obtaining employment.
  8. Provide focused support to specific student demographic populations based on their unique needs and characteristics.
  9. Support students in preparing for standardized tests or industry-specific certifications to meet their postsecondary and career goals.
  10. Assist students with obtaining online working papers and job applications.
  11. Recruit and coordinate guest speakers to provide students with insights into various career and postsecondary opportunities.
  12. Plan and participate in workplace tours and networking events such as business expos and job fairs to connect students with potential employers and postsecondary CTE institutions.
  13. Assist in facilitating tours of the schools career and technical education programs to potential business partners.
  14. Assist in organizing and facilitating tours of local business organizations and industries for interested students.
  15. Plan and facilitate necessary meetings with all stakeholders including but not limited to Professional Learning Community meetings
  16. Participate in school events including but not limited to Back to School Night Parent Nights Elective Fair National Honor Society National Technical Honor Society Awards and Scholarships and Graduation.
  17. Coordinate and oversee Program Advisory Committees.
  18. Coordinate and oversee Career Day.
  19. Coordinate and oversee Job Signings/Senior Employment Commitments.
  20. Coordinate and oversee pre-apprentice and apprentice programs.
  21. Coordinate and oversee the Early Work Release option for students.
  22. Work directly with Teachers Counselors Child Study Team Administration and students to determine student readiness for career experiences.
  23. Establish a presence among employers in the County promoting the value of providing work-based supervision of students including attendance at Workforce Development Board Meetings as assigned.
  24. Supervise students to worksites for interviews and job shadowing experiences including development of action plans or remedial support as needed.
  25. Support students with new employee orientations and their transition to the new work-based learning in hazardous and non-hazardous environments.
  26. Monitor document and support students during work based experiences.
  27. Maintain appropriate student records including employer training agreements and plans performance assessments and profiles grade reports attendance records and other related documentation for students participating in work-based learning and early work release.
  28. Check attendance and grades for school-to-work and early work release students weekly.
  29. Meet with parents of students to discuss the importance of post-secondary education and work-based experiences as part of the students educational plan.
  30. Evaluate job sites and work-based experiences ensuring appropriateness and safety at all times.
  31. Provide job placement services to complete each students transition plan in an appropriate time frame.
  32. Ensure that all students have equitable access to career exploration and preparation resources.
  33. Knowledge of all CTE programs and curriculum.
  34. Coordinate and prepare presentations upon request.
  35. Positive working relationships with students and community partnerships.
  36. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with teachers students administrators parents patrons partnerships businesses and job site workers.
  37. Ability to safely and proficiently operate standard office equipment as required by the position.
  38. Represent the District and School at community and with industry events strengthening partnerships and promoting programs that benefit students.
  39. Protect confidentiality of records and information gained as part of exercising professional duties and use discretion in sharing such information within legal confines.
  40. Perform any duties that are within the scope of employment and certifications as assigned by the Superintendent or assigned supervisor and not otherwise prohibited by law or regulation.
  41. Adhere to New Jersey school law State Board of Education rules and regulations Board of Education policies and regulations school regulations and procedures.

  5. Function in a workplace that is usually moderately quiet but that can be noisy at times.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Boards policy on evaluation of certified staff for the Employment Conditions and Benefits for Non-Bargaining Unit Employees.
