Join UChicago Medicine as a Nursing Support Assistant in our Comer 5th Floor Nursing unit.

In this role as a Nursing Support Assistant(CNA) you will perform assigned supportive work in connection with the delivery of patient care including functional tasks and skills.

UChicago Medicine Comer Childrens Hospital located in Hyde Park is a state-of-the-art 172-bed hospital dedicated to caring for infants children teens and young a range of services from general care to groundbreaking treatments for the most complex medical conditions Comer Childrens is home to the only Level 1 pediatric trauma center on Chicagos South Side.

Comer 5 holds thirty-one licensed beds for neurology neurosurgery epilepsy solid organ transplant and general medical/surgical patients; physical therapy room epilepsy monitoring room minor procedures room play area and conference room.

Essential Job Functions

  • Provides basic patient care activities including vital signs enemas and basic tests such as glucoscan hemacult and multistix
  • Assists patients with activities of daily living as appropriate/assigned using proper aseptic isolation and infection control techniques in performance of duties
  • Assists patients with personal hygiene ambulation and nourishment/fluids
  • Completes procedures as assigned such as collecting patient specimens and weighing patients.
  • Assists with discharge and transfer preparation of patients
  • Assists in the maintenance of the patient environment: makes patient beds tidies patient room and prepares patient room for admission and transfer
  • Assists with the maintenance of supplies/equipment and the environment.
  • Communicates and accurately documents activities onto the proper records or logs
  • Initiates CPR and calls a Dr. Cart
  • Performs receptionist duties for assigned area as requested

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be listed on the IDPH Health Care Worker Registry (HCWR) as an Illinois CNA OR a nursing student who has passed the written competency exam and is listed on the HCWR.
  • CPR/BLS Certification
  • Ability to read and write perform simple mathematical calculations follow oral and written instructions perform variety of tasks without direct supervision and perform duties requiring continuous physical effort
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and/or in written form
  • Ability to work in partnership with management and staff
  • Occasional lifting may be heavy and awkward over 50 lbs.
  • Moderate to extreme physical effort such as walking standing performing CPR and lifting materials equipment objects and/or patients may be
  • Vision hearing and sense of touch must be adequate to enable one to quickly and accurately perform tasks such as reading small print defining details sending and receiving clear and accurate oral communication
  • Frequent periods of concentrated or focused attention will be needed to interpret visual auditory and sensory

Position Details

In this role we anticipate that you will generally work approximately 36 hours per week. We anticipate that you will generally be scheduled to work the night shift from approximately 7pm-7am and will not be scheduled for on-call shifts. We anticipate you will be scheduled to work 100% at the Hyde Park campus. The days of the week that you are scheduled will vary depending on the week but we anticipate that you will be scheduled to work on weekends (Saturday and/or Sunday) only every other week).

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits. The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
