Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

Provide intensive reading and writing instruction to students below grade level. Consult with and coach teachers to provide appropriate classroom interventions and resources matched to student skill need. Support the RTI Building Leadership Team and SST process. Provide teacher training as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge Skills Abilities: Knowledge of elementary curriculum content and reading development. Strong communication skills. Ability to: (1) work collaboratively; (2) provide staff development in reading as needed based on best practices; (3) understand and analyze data to make decisions; (4) organize school wide data for team decision making; and (5) work well with students staff and parents.

Experience: A minimum of three years of successful teaching experience and successful experience in teaching at risk readers and designing instruction for struggling readers.

Education: Completion of a higher education bachelors degree or masters degree in education/teaching.

Certification Required:A valid teaching license issued by the Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission in addition to a Reading Endorsement valid for elementary school level.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Ability to communicate with Spanish speaking students and parents preferred.
  2. Experience working with core literacy curriculum as well as intervention programs that provide basic reading support to students in the areas of phonemic awareness phonetics fluency vocabulary development comprehension and writing
  3. Experience in administering screening and diagnostic assessments and interpreting data
  4. Knowledge of the Science of Reading
  5. Knowledge of the RTI Framework
  6. Knowledge of the signs of dyslexia and methods for supporting students in the core and in small group
  7. Knowledge of bilingual language development for reading and writing in Spanish and English
  8. Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
  9. Assist in the planning of a reading program that meets the learning needs of students and follows District RTI Guidelines.
  10. Work with classroom teachers to support reading instruction and promote effective reading instructional strategies in the classroom.
  11. Act as a resource person in reading for classroom teachers.
  12. Develop and maintain regular and effective communications with students parents staff administration and the community.
  13. Assist the district in assessment of learner outcomes on a regular cycle to determine individual student progress and program effectiveness and maintain such records as required.
  14. Promote cooperative teaching experiences within the regular classroom.
  15. Assist in the development of and provide workshops in-service training and/or modeling of effective teaching techniques and activities that promote reading.
  16. Act as an advocate for students experiencing difficulty in learning to read.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Language Skills:Ability to read English and comprehend complex technical language. Ability to write memoranda correspondence lessons plans reports and student achievement summaries in English. Ability to effectively present information in one-to-one and small group situations.

Mathematical Skills:Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations with a high degree of accuracy.

Reasoning Ability:Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed but basic written or oral instructions in English. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Other Skills and Abilities:Ability to work collaboratively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers supervisor(s) staff students parents and community.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to walk and may be continuously required to stand. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk while performing the duties of this job. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop kneel crouch or crawl. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Works in a school environment. Able to use a telephone operate a computer and use other office equipment. Able to drive to other program sites and meetings.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Salary and work year in accordance with negotiated agreement between licensed teachers and the district.

CLASSIFICATION:

Full-timeprobationaryposition location Edwards Elementary School.

CALENDAR/BENEFITS:

Work Hours:

8 hours per day; Contract days and start date TBD based on upcoming licensed contract negotiations of 2025-2026 contract.

Salary and Benefits:

Salary range TBD based on upcoming licensed contract negotiations of 2025-2026 contract. (2024-2025 salary range $48741 - $100225).
