Job Description

JOB GOAL:

To help students facilitate learning through the use of music and establish and maintaininstructional goals and objectives according to the Little Rock School Districts MusicDepartment.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This position is Nine and one-fourth (9.25) month contract (190 days) plus a benefits package.NOTE:Precise placement within the salary range will be determined based on experience and LRSDs salary placement guidelines.FLSA: EXEMPT.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. A bachelors degree in music education masters degree preferred.
  2. Must have Arkansas certification in vocal music.
  3. Evidence of piano pedagogy and piano skills necessary for student performances.
  4. Evidence of skills in the area of classroom management.
  5. Evidence of strong interpersonal skills.
  6. Evidence of a strong commitment to quality desegregated education.

Such alternatives and additions to the above qualifications may be deemed appropriate by the Superintendent. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following statements of duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of all personnel within this position.

  1. Provides music instruction through the choir.
  2. To provide appropriate choir performance experience for students enrolled in the choir.
  3. Provides reasonable music support for school assemblies.
  4. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  5. Plans a program of study that as much as possible meets the individual needs interests and abilities of the students.
  6. Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate superior.
  7. Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  8. Strives to implement by instruction and action the districts philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  9. Maintains accurate complete and correct records as required by law district policy and administrative regulation.
  10. Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct and for the classroom develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  11. Attends staff meeting and serves on staff committees required.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned.

Mental Functions Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit stand walk go up and down stairs operate foot and hand controls use a telephone and write. Occasionally the employee must lift and/or move up to twenty (20) or more pounds. This position requires accurate perceiving of sound near and far vision depth perception handling and working with educational materials and/or objects and providing oral information. Must have the ability to work for the duration of the daily contracted time period and to be physically present and at assigned work with only infrequent unexcused absences during the contract year. Additional technical skills knowledge and abilities may be recommended by immediate supervisor and approved by the Human Resources Director.
