Responsible for managing the Infection Prevention department with oversight of the surveillance and reporting of nosocomial infections investigation of infection or clusters of infections as warranted microbiological monitoring/remediation of the healthcare environment targeted education consultation research administration and continued professional development. Assists in providing a safe environment for patients and staff. Coordinates activities related to monitoring prevention and control of infections in the hospital. Serves as a consultant to infection prevention issues. Evaluates and reduces risk of transmission of infections and contributes to ongoing studies regarding infections control. Develops hospital wide infection control policies and procedures.
Accountabilities
1. Collaborates with Infection Prevention Medical Director for maintenance and implementation of the CMC Infection Prevention Plan.
2. In conjunction with assigned Infection Preventionists consults with other departments regarding infection control implications of their policies and procedures.
3. Directs cluster and outbreak investigations and advises on all appropriate control measures.
4. Monitors and evaluates potential nosocomial infections incidents trends and threshold information on targeted pathogens.
5. Develops and maintains hospital wide infection control policies and procedures.
6. Participates on committees and/or quality monitoring teams as needed.
7. Assigns directs and reviews the work of Infection Preventionists and Analysts. Provides oversight of work methods procedures work flow and standards for quality and quantity of work.
8. Ensures timely reporting of all required elements to NHSN and Public Health.
9. Assists Director with the budget process through resource identification and area needs. Prepares realistic budgets reflecting needed expenditures and operating income of all assigned functions. Takes appropriate corrective action to ensure operations are managed within approved budgets. Reports budget variances to the Director in a timely manner.
10. Manages staffing and scheduling functions to achieve department objectives cost effective staffing and productivity targets.
11. Directly responsible (with support from Human Resources) for employee engagement and people management processes including interviewing and selection time and attendance approval providing timely feedback and performance evaluations employee development employee retention disciplinary actions and terminations.
12. Performs other duties as assigned.
Education
Bachelors Degree in related field required
Experience
4 years of previous experience in the healthcare industry or a healthcare setting required
Previous leadership experience in Public Health healthcare industry or healthcare setting preferred
Licenses and Certifications
CBIC-CIC - Certified Infection Control required
