Job Summary:
The LVN supports student health and wellness by providing basic medical care managing chronic health conditions administering medications and first aid performing administrative duties and assisting with health screenings under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) and/or School Administrator. The LVN is critical in maintaining a safe healthy school environment that supports learning and student success.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Student Health Services
- Provide first aid and emergency care to students and staff.
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments by physician orders and school policies.
- Monitor students with chronic conditions (e.g. diabetes asthma seizures) and assist in managing individualized health plans (IHPs).
- Maintain accurate health records including immunizations medications and clinic visits. Perform record keeping and basic clerical functions such as scheduling copying etc. to support the teacher in maintaining student files and providing materials.
- Complete administrative duties such as assisting the RN with health plans scheduling staff training and communicating with parents.
- Complete accident and follow-up reports
- Monitor individual students classroom and/or playground activities to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
- Confer with teachers to assist in evaluating students progress and/or implementing students objectives.
- Participate in meetings to share information and/or improve ones skills/knowledge.
- Other related work as required.
Health Education and Promotion
- Support health screenings (vision hearing scoliosis etc.).
- Promote healthy habits and hygiene among students.
- Provide support to health education programs or presentations.
Compliance and Documentation
- Follow all district state and federal laws related to student health care and privacy (e.g. FERPA HIPAA).
- Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times.
- Assist with required health reporting and immunization compliance.
Collaboration and Communication
- Communicate professionally with parents guardians staff and health care providers.
- Conduct staff training as required
- Collaborate with the school nurse administrators and special education staff to support students with medical needs.
- Participate in Student Support Team (SST) IEP or 504 meetings when appropriate.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Valid California LVN license (or state-equivalent)
- Current CPR and First Aid certification
- TB test and clearance
- Valid drivers license and reliable transportation (if travel between sites is required)
Preferred:
- Experience working with children or adolescents in a healthcare or school setting
- Knowledge of common pediatric conditions and school health protocols
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus

- Learn and apply appropriate medical methods and procedures with clearly defined guidelines.
- Make judgments and decisions perform various duties involving frequent changes of tasks aptitudes techniques procedures etc.
- Correct use of medical equipment in the clinic/health office.
- Administer first aid and CPR.
- Operate equipment properly and safely.
- Maintain routine records.
- Work independently with little direction.
- Work with discretion and in confidence with student information.
- Perform effectively under stress.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand walk and sit for extended periods
- Lift and/or assist students with mobility limitations (up to 50 lbs.)
- Ability to respond quickly in emergencies
Work Schedule and Compensation:
- Follows the school calendar 195 days per year
- Hours typically align with the school day - Occasional evening and weekends
- Compensation based on the district salary schedule and experience
