JOB DESCRIPTION
The purpose of the Driver Trainer position is to provide behind-the-wheel training and address school bus regulations/safety procedures; prepare in-service training for drivers and attendants; identify training requirements for both new and experienced drivers; evaluate knowledge and skills of bus drivers; and maintain required documentation for audit in compliance with State Certification and district/federal requirements. The driver trainer will also provide assistance in the recruitment selection and hiring of bus driver and attendant candidates. The person in this position will work as a cover driver or regular route driver when not performing Driver Trainer Duties.
The person in this position must commit to a two week training course (DATES TBA). Training costs and expenses will be paid by the district. Paid at driver rate while training.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Minimum age of 21.
- Successful completion of training or certification programs related to position. This could include but is not limited to one of the following: Current CDL High School Diploma GED AA BA etc.
- Must present transcripts of highest level of education within thirty (30) days of hire if applicable.
- Must pass a basic skills test.
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

- Successful completion of Bus Driver training program.
- Must possess or be willing to obtain a Washington State Commercial Drivers License Class B with passenger and air brake endorsements.
- Completion of Safe Schools Web Based Training within thirty (30) days of hire.
- Must be CPR/First Aid certified or be willing to obtain First Aid certification with thirty (30) days of employment.
- Must pass a background check which includes employee paid fingerprinting
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

- Must take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.
- Must maintain the physical and licensing requirements of a CDL bus driver as required.
- Must be able to pass a yearly bus evacuation drill and maintain the physical requirements of removing children safely from the bus. Must possess sufficient strength and ability to assist ill or physically impaired students to enter or exit a school bus through the passenger service door.
- Must attend yearly in-service trainings as required as well as attend any training as directed by management.

- Demonstrated ability to organize and instruct training activities in classroom and school bus settings.
- Evidence of experience and ability to work closely with school district transportation staff administrators and other professionals.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Washington State laws and administrative codes (WACs and RCWs) related to pupil transportation and traffic safety education.
- Five (5) years of experience in pupil transportation with school bus driving.
- Evidence of general knowledge of school transportation procedures.
- Excellent evaluations excellent attendance punctuality and dependability.
- Evidence of leadership abilities as indicated by good relationships with staff and management problem solving skills cooperativeness and flexibility.
- Evidence of ability to work within the designated bounds of authority and confidentiality.
- Evidence of proficient computer skills in the areas of word processing and database operations.
- Evidence of ability to work independently and evidence of good organizational skills.
- Evidence of proficient record- keeping skills.
- Evidence of ability to plan initiate prepare and implement policies and procedures.
- Willingness to attend trainings for certification including First Aid trainer. Must maintain Driver Trainer Certificate throughout employment.
- Evidence of ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions make common sense decisions in potentially critical situations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan and schedules basic in-service and first aid/CPR training for all bus drivers.
- Conduct and/or supervises all elements of school bus driver training programs mandated by the Superintendent of Public Instruction.
- Coordinate and obtains all teaching aids as needed for specialized driver training programs.
- Coordinate all financial obligations and additional drivers hours with the pre-approval of the Manager of Transportation.
- Certify to the Manager of Transportation those trainees who meet acceptable standards and make recommendations for additional training or the discontinuation of training for those who do not.
- Maintain and supervises the training records and certification requirements of each school bus driver to assure that each driver remains certified is given ample notification of training needs and is kept advised of school district policies and state regulations so far as continuing employment is contingent upon compliance.
- Establish a bus evacuation program as required by the Superintendent of Public Instruction.
- Assist the Transportation Department in reviewing the safety of bus stops routes turn-arounds loading and unloading zones and bus driver performance.
- Participates on the Accident Review Committee. This committee is responsible for the review and evaluation of accidents involving school buses and provides a report to the Manager of Transportation. Will recommend (to Manager of Transportation) corrective training for the driver(s) involved in an accident.
- Assist with the recruitment screening interviewing and hiring process for new drivers and attendants.
- Assist with the annual updating of the Transportation Dept. employee handbook.
- Periodically reviews training programs in order to update and improve methods used.
- Maintains current CDL and Washington State Driver Trainer Certificate.
- Provides feedback to Manager of Transportation regarding bus driver and attendant annual evaluations.
- Assists other department staff as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their duties.
- Performs all duties of the position within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures including regular attendance and punctuality.
