Title: Health & Wellness Teacher and Associate Athletic Director
Division: Upper School
Reports to: Athletic Director (and Head of School)
Status: Full-time Exempt (Academic Year)
Salary Range: $75000 and MWA Benefits
Summary
The primary role of Making Waves Academys Health & Wellness Teacher & Associate Athletic Director is to support the Athletic Director in the overall administration and management of the athletic programs. This dual-role combines physical education (Health and Wellness) instruction with athletic program administration (50% Teaching / 50% Administration). That is serve as a teacher delivering curriculum to students grades 9-12 and an Associate Athletic Director supporting and ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of athletic activities. This role is ideal for an educator who is passionate about academics and athletics and can effectively manage classroom responsibilities while supporting the middle school and upper schools athletic activities. This position includes evening and weekend hours.

Health & Wellness (50% FTE)
- Plan and deliver comprehensive PE curriculum aligned with state standards and charter school goals
- Teach multiple grade levels (9-12) with differentiated instruction for varying skill levels
- Assess student fitness levels motor skills development and participation
- Maintain equipment inventory and ensure safe use of gymnasium and outdoor facilities
- Integrate health education components including nutrition wellness and injury prevention
- Adapt programming for students with diverse physical abilities and medical considerations
- Document student progress and communicate with parents regarding PE participation and achievements
Associate Athletic Director(50% FTE)- In collaboration with the Athletic Director schedule practice games and tournaments coordinating with the athletic league and opposing schools. Coordinate home game operations including facility setup officials and any concessions. Coordinate transportation for away games and travel.
- Be present at selected athletic events including evenings and weekends to provide supervision and support. Promote sportsmanship and ethical conduct among student-athletes.
- Help to ensure strict compliance with league section NFHS and state athletic association rules and regulations. Verify athletic eligibility and help to continuously monitor student-athlete academic progress in coordination with academic teachers.
- Assist with equipment and uniform ordering inventory distribution maintenance and collection. Support fundraising efforts and community engagement for athletic programs. Assist with the departments social media accounts sharing updates photos and videos and provide athletic updates for school calendars. Communicate regularly with parents students and the community regarding athletic programs.
- Coordinate athletic award ceremonies banquets and recognition events.
- Support coaches with administrative tasks and program needs. Manage department files and records including the collection and tracking of required forms (e.g. physicals consent). Maintain accurate records for participation injuries and emergency contacts. Maintain league standings statistics and reporting requirements.
- Assist with athletic budget components including expenses for equipment uniforms and travel.
- Support facility maintenance.

- Participate in the school community attending school competitions performances assemblies and supporting student events student clubs and club advisors.
- Participate in required campus supervision duties every week from Monday to Friday with varying frequency depending on the semesters supervision assignment.
Work Environment- This job operates in an indoor and outdoor school environment and routinely uses standard office/school equipment.
- Evening and weekend work required to cover athletic events. Occasional travel for away games.
Physical Demands- Lift and carry objects up to 100 pounds (with assistance); Move around campus including gyms fields and turf; Bend stretch twist or reach out; Maintain balance or stay upright in unstable positions; Use hands and fingers to operate equipment and tape students; Coordinate movement of multiple parts of the body; See differences between colors shades and brightness; Hear sounds and recognize differences between them. Be able to handle outdoor temperatures; Be able to work long periods of time without getting tired or out of breath.
Education and Experience- Bachelors degree in Physical Education Sports Management Education Administration or a related field and 3 years progressive experience in athletics. Previous experience in athletic administration or coaching desired
- Valid teaching certificate with PE endorsement
- Knowledge of high school athletics regulations and league operations helpful
- Experience working with students and families from historically underserved communities. Demonstrates cultural competency and a commitment to equity and inclusion in school athletics

- Ability to work effectively under pressure. Able to handle high amounts of stress. Adapts quickly to last-minute changes like weather transportation issues or eligibility concerns
Licenses or Certificates- Employment eligibility will include fingerprints/Live Scan tuberculosis (TB) screening and other employment clearance.
- Current CPR/First Aid/AED desired.
