Job Description
Capital One has taken a bold journey to build a technology company while operating in a complex highly regulated business. We have built out a large engineering organization moved to the cloud re-architected our applications and data platforms and embraced machine learning at scale. Our AI/ML capabilities are now at the forefront of whats possible in banking. (e.g. Eno). As we uncovered new challenges along the way we built and battle tested new capabilities to meet those needs. Weve open sourced several of the software tools we built (e.g. Cloud Custodian Hygieia) and forged new partnerships with other digital leaders (e.g. MSFT).
Through this journey weve developed a suite of internal solutions uniquely designed to meet the challenges of a digital-first cloud-first business at scale. The Capital One Software team is exploring how these internal solutions across cloud data governance and applications could serve the needs of other companies born or built in the cloud or migrating to the cloud.
The Capital One Software team is looking for experienced and collaborative individual contributors who are technically skilled and can work directly with the customers to engineer deliver and successfully implement solutions and products within their data ecosystem. In this role you will need to be technically capable and credible in your own right as well as effective in shaping the customer and solutions-focused skills of your team. We are looking for individual contributors who are passionate about learning and introducing new technology in order to help colleagues and customers embrace and adopt new technology. We need innovators who can look beyond the technology and consider the value our technology creates for our customers who can help customers embrace the offered technology and solutions who are obsessed with customer success and can help change how our technology is viewed to enable outcomes.
What Youll Do:
Prepare and deliver technical engagements with enterprise customers including envisioning business and technical solutions delivering architectural design and rapid prototypes.
Drive architecture/design reviews focused on business and technical requirements.
Analyze define and document requirements for data workflow logical processes hardware operating system environment and enterprise system integrations.
Plan manage and deliver customer projects.
Support architecture governance by providing subject matter expertise.
Work with business and product partners architects and other groups to identify technical and functional needs of systems and determine priority of needs.
Enforce company policies in areas of development methodology architecture security change and configuration management compliance and HR.
Utilize programming languages like JavaScript Java HTML/CSS TypeScript SQL Python and Go Open Source RDBMS and NoSQL databases Container Orchestration services including Docker and Kubernetes and a variety of AWS tools and services
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree
At least 4 years of experience in software engineering (Internship experience does not apply)
At least 1 year experience with cloud computing (AWS Microsoft Azure Google Cloud)
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters Degree
7 years of experience in at least one of the following: Java Python Go JavaScript or TypeScript
3 years of experience with AWS GCP Microsoft Azure or another cloud service
4 years of experience in open source frameworks
1 years of people management experience
2 years of experience in Agile practices
6 years of experience architecting designing and/or delivering delivering scalable and decoupled systems in a heavily regulated technology environment
3 years of experience in building and managing infrastructure databases networking and CI/CD Tooling (K8s Artifactory Harness Docker ECS etc.)
2 years of experience working with internal and external business clients
1 years of experience working on data management platforms in areas such as Data Discovery Data Classification Data Lineage and Data Catalog.
1 years of experience with Cryptography and Quantum Computing.
AWS or equivalent certifications (Cloud Practitioner Solution Architect-Associate GCP or Azure)

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
Remote (Regardless of Location): $175800 - $200700 for Manager Lead Software Engineer; $175800 - $200700 for Lead Software EngineerCandidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidates offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI).
