Job Description
This position assists the Senior Technician in the planning coordinating and directing of soil investigations for the design construction and maintenance units within the University Region. Investigates and helps solve geotechnical related issues to ensure the department delivers a high-quality product to the public. Interpret plans recognize special problems prepare reports and maps in micro-station make recommendations directly to the project engineers to solve problems related to road and bridge construction during design. Conduct final project file reviews work in the lab conducting concrete strength Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) aggregate and soil testing.
Operate a vehicle or vehicle/trailer combination with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 26001 pounds or more (e.g. power auger truck) when performing soil borings.
The Salary listed above is a range that reflects the minimum rate at the entry (8) level through the maximum rate at the advanced(E10) level. Required Education and Experience
- EducationPossession of an Associates degree in concrete technology civil technology construction technologysurveying technology construction management mathematics or computer science.ExperienceTransportation Technician 8No specific type or amount is required.Transportation Technician 9One year of experience equivalent to a Transportation Technician 8.Transportation Technician E10Two years of experience equivalent to a Transportation Technician including one year equivalent to a Transportation Technician 9.
Alternate Education and Experience
- Transportation Technician 8 - 12
Possession of a Bachelors degree or higher in an Applied Science or Science with 16 semester hours (24 term)credits in job specific or related course work qualifies for the Transportation Technician E10 level.
OR
Completion of 60 semester (90 term) credits including 24 semester (36 term) credits in any combinationof course work in the following areas: structures materials soils hydrology surveying designbituminous concrete aggregate chemistry physics geology environmental science computerscience highway or traffic technology construction management engineering or mathematics may besubstituted for the associates degree.
OR
Four years of technician level experience consisting of quality control inspections drafting materialsand testing surveying or traffic may be substituted for the Associates degree.
OR
Current certification in bituminous (hot mix) concrete density testing or aggregate gradation and oneyear of related field experience may be substituted for the associates degree.
OR
Current certification in bituminous (hot mix) concrete density testing or aggregate gradation and threeyears experience equivalent to a Transportation Maintenance Worker 9 may be substituted for theassociates degree.
OR
Current certification in bituminous (hot mix) concrete density testing or aggregate gradation andcompletion of 16 semester (24 term) credits in any combination of course work in the following areas:structures materials soils hydrology surveying design bituminous concrete aggregate chemistryphysics geology environmental science computer science highway or traffic technology constructionmanagement engineering or mathematics may be substituted for the Associates degree. - Possess a Commercial Learners Permit upon appointment to the position. Continuing employment requires possession of a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Group A with either an N or X endorsement and no air brake restrictions which must be obtained within 12 months of the date of hire into the position.
