Job Description:

This position exists to serve as the Lead Cashier at the campus bookstore. The Customer Service Specialist is responsible for delivering exceptional customer service to students staff and visitors efficiently processing transactions and ensuring the smooth operation of the cash register. This role also supports the bookstore team with merchandising and inventory management for textbook and non-textbook items contributing to an organized well-stocked and welcoming environment.

Salary Range:

$20.45 - $27.12 per hour

Minimum Qualifications (expected to have to enter job)

  • Minimum of two years of experience in a similar business position.

  • Proficient in the use of standard business software applications including word processing electronic spreadsheets internet browsers and e-mail software.

  • Excellent customer service skills to provide courteous and efficient service and proficient in oral written and electronic communications to effectively interact with customers including the public students and employees sufficient to explain policies and procedures and deal with complaints.

  • Experience in a retail environment and has the ability to operate a cash register calculator card reader and pricing equipment.

  • Ability to serve individuals from diverse racial ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.

  • Commitment to equity diversity and inclusion.

  • Physical ability sufficient for standing frequently lifting boxes up to forty pounds intermittently and reaching to stock shelves or unpack boxes occasionally.

Preferred Qualification(desired but not expected to have to enter job)

  • Two-year degree in a Business-related field with emphasis on retail.

  • Ability to successfully use software such as Microsoft Word and Excel to create and modify documents and spreadsheets.

  • Knowledge and understanding of MBS systems such as ARC (Advanced Retail Center) and inSite ecommerce marketplace.

  • Ability to organize tasks initiate action work independently within parameters and communicate effectively with a diverse range of people.

  • Ability to multi-task and quickly adapt to changes in policies processes procedures and priorities and ability to work independently within parameters.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate proficient human relations skills to work with a varied level of internal and external customers to achieve effective problem solving.

Other Requirements:

In accordance with the Minnesota State Colleges & Universities (Minnesota State) Vehicle Fleet Safety Program employees driving on college/university business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to Minnesota States vehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor Vehicle Records check.
