Special Education 1:1 Nurse/School nurse
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Registered nurse with a minimum of a bachelors degree in nursing
- Community health or school nursing experience preferred
- Evidence of strong organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to work with people
- Good verbal communication and interpersonal skills are essential
- Strong knowledge of the healthcare needs of children
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the District may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Health Services Manager in collaboration with the building principal.
SUPERVISES: This position is not supervisory though does provide direction and support to staff implementing health services.
JOB GOALS: Provide direct and indirect health services to students and participate in the planning implementation and evaluation of the school health services program to enhance student learning promote the overall efficiency of the school system and maximize the educational opportunities available to each child. Provide other services and supports that allow students to access the least restrictive environment in accordance with the DDSDP.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide 1:1 direct nursing care for a student 2 hrs a day as established in the IEP (this may include riding the bus and Extended School Year work). Will be assigned to a building as a School Nurse for the remainder of the day.
- Collaborate with the IEP team in the development and implementation of the IEP.
- Provide student prompting and support in order to access the least restrictive environment.
- Implement the environmental supports in alignment with the student-infused skills grid and IEP to ensure access to learning targets.
- Collaborate with the case manager to ensure appropriate services are in place to promote student access to the Iowa Core.
- Assess students physical and emotional health to plan and develop an individualized plan for the provision of health services at school.
- Plan and oversee the provision of first aid and emergency care to the student during the school day.
- Collaborate with community agencies and district staff to promote health and wellness for the student family and staff.
- Assist the student and family in accessing health care and social service resources. 10. Plan train and supervise the care of the student with special health care needs including training of district staff.
- Consult with parents and health care providers.
- Participate in the planning and operation of the school health services programs to aid in preventing and controlling communicable diseases.
- Maintain student health records.
- Assist in the identification follow-up and reporting of child abuse/neglect cases.
- Assist the Health Services Manager where appropriate.
- Other duties as assigned

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
1. 184/186 Contract Days. Salary and calendar year to be established by the Board of Education.
