Job Description
Job Title: Reading Remediation Specialist
Education: Bachelors Degree. Certified in early childhood elementary education or reading specialist. Current Oklahoma Teaching Certificate.
Training or experience required: Previous experience as a reading interventionist/specialist. Previous teacher development experience preferred. At least 3 years of successful teaching experience is required.
Reports to: Building Principal

Essential Job Functions:
- To help students develop proficient reading skills that will contribute to their academic growth. This position will work extensively with students to help them improve specific reading skills such as letter-naming initial sounds phoneme segmentation and comprehension strategies. They will also address the specific needs of a particular child when regular classroom instruction is not sufficient.
- Consult frequently with classroom teachers on matters relating to reading instruction using our progress-monitoring instrument as a base.
- Design interventions and write lesson plans detailing methods and materials.
- Assist in the evaluation of ongoing programs and make recommendations for change.
- Assist teachers and other administrators and/or supervisors in implementing the school reading program.
- Help teachers diagnose reading strengths and weaknesses and match these skills with appropriate techniques and materials.
- Consult with curriculum committees studying such topics as textbook selection vocabulary development concept development supplementary materials and the development of study skills.
- Promote interest in reading.
- Work with the classroom teacher and district personnel to coordinate reading instruction designed to meet the individual needs of students.
- Work with the classroom teacher to monitor student progress.
- Teach remedial reading as needed.
- Familiar with the RTI process and Tiered Instruction.
- Perform other responsibilities as may from time to time be assigned by the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge Skills and/or Abilities):
- Bachelos Degree
- Three (3) years of successful teaching experience required
- Current Oklahoma Teaching Certificate
- Early childhood Elementary or Reading Specialist Certification
- LETRS training preferred
- Reading Interventionist/Specialist experience preferred
- Experience leading teachers in the area of instructional delivery across the curriculum
- Outstanding communication facilitation skills
- Knowledge of effective instructional practices for English language learners students with disabilities and gifted and talented students
- Experience in analyzing data to drive instruction
Physical/Mental Requirements:
- Must have adequate manual dexterity to write legibly and perform required duties on the computer.
- Must have adequate visual acuity to read interpret and transcribe written material and other required duties.
- Requires normal range of hearing and clear speaking abilities to interact appropriate with others in persona and on the telephone.
- Requires some stooping bending stretching and occasional lifting not to exceed 25 pounds.
- Sitting for prolonged periods of time.
- May periodically require work outside of normal business hours including weekends under sometimes stressful conditions in order to meet business needs and strict deadlines.
