St Vincents Private Hospital Melbourne (SVPHM) is a facility of St Vincents Health Australia under the stewardship of Mary Aikenhead Ministries. We are a not-for-profit Catholic private hospital which operates across four sites at Fitzroy East Melbourne Kew and Werribee.

We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated Physiotherapists with recent broad experience in the acute and rehabilitation inpatient setting to join our physiotherapy team. The successful candidates will be required to cover weekday shifts on a casual basis and will have the opportunity to join the casual weekend roster if desired. Shift length and start/finish time flexibility may be negotiated to accommodate out of work commitments.

This role will include management of a diverse clinical caseload across neurosciences orthopaedics cardiac and thoracic surgery ICU general surgery general medicine oncology and maternity (Fitzroy site).

Inpatient orthopaedics general medicine oncology and inpatient rehabilitation.

(Werribee and East Melbourne sites).

The successful candidates will have the opportunity to work as part of an experienced multi-disciplinary team to provide high quality patient centred care. They will also have the opportunity to work across all sites depending on experience.

Responsibilities will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Effective management of a busy and diverse clinical caseload
  • Prioritisation and workload allocation
  • Communication with the multidisciplinary team
  • Safe and effective discharge planning

The successful candidate will have:

  • Broad experience within the acute inpatient or inpatient rehabilitation settings
  • For maternity recent experience and post graduate qualifications an advantage
  • An ability to work independently and competently across the acute care service
  • A commitment to high quality patient care
  • Well-developed communication skills and demonstrated experience working as part of an effective team
  • Recent experience in ICU is desirable but not essential

ROLE IMPACT

A Grade 2 Physiotherapist at SVPHM will have a broad experience base within the hospital setting while demonstrating an emerging interest in a specialty clinical area. This skill base will allow a Grade 2 Physiotherapist to work independently and competently across the full spectrum of acute and rehabilitation services providing clinical support and supervision to junior staff and students as required. They will have a commitment to developing their skills and knowledge in the specialty area relevant to their role through attaining clinical experience and participating in quality improvement and professional development activities.

A Grade 2 Physiotherapist will demonstrate emerging leadership skills. This may include collaborating with and supporting senior staff and management with continual service improvement and supervision and mentoring of junior staff and students.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Patient/Resident Centred

  • Actively participate in key initiatives that contribute to person-centered care improvements.
  • Take a partnership approach to care provision by embedding person centred care principles in all aspects of work.
  • Ensure consumers receive information in an appropriate and accessible format.
  • Actively support consumers to make informed decisions about their treatment and ongoing care.
  • Ensure consumers know their rights and responsibilities and how to provide feedback.
  • Uphold the expected standards of service excellence.

Position Accountabilities

  • Provide evidence based physiotherapy intervention across the clinical stream
  • Timely delivery of team goals and quality improvement projects including annual delivery of a minimum of one quality improvement project
  • Supervision/mentoring of Grade 1 physiotherapists and AHAs as per department policy
  • Student supervision
  • Clinical liaison with the multidisciplinary team nurse unit managers medical team and other key stakeholders

Quality and Safety

  • Maintain clinical registration and any required indemnity cover (if applicable).
  • Always work within the approved scope of practice under supervision by more senior staff as appropriate.
  • Take personal responsibility for the quality and safety of work undertaken.
  • Take all necessary care and precautions when undertaking clinical procedures.
  • Complete annual competencies and required training.
  • Maintain skills and knowledge necessary to safely and skilfully undertake work.
  • Consult with peers and other experts and refer to other healthcare workers when appropriate and in a timely manner.
  • Participate in clinical risk management patient safety and continuous quality improvement activities as part of day-to-day work.
  • All practices are consistent with the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards EQUiP National and relevant professional practice and ethical standards and guidelines.
  • Protect the health and safety of self and others complying with all health and safety-related policies procedures and directions.
  • Complete required Fire and Emergency Training annually.
  • Complete required Workplace Bullying and Harassment as required.
  • Collaborate and communicate with patients/clients and the healthcare team.

Human Resources

  • Acts as a preceptor for new staff students and trainees.
  • Participates in annual performance appraisal and regular goal setting.
  • Welcomes assists and embraces new and junior staff to the unit.

  • Accountable for personal achievement of 100% competencies as per unit and organisational needs.
  • Liaise closely with the allocated Education Consultant or Clinical Coach to implement and progress own training and development.

QUALIFICATIONS

MUST HAVE EXPERIENCE & REQUIREMENTS

  • Registration as a Physiotherapist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA).
  • National Criminal History Check.
  • Specialist qualifications and/or experience as appropriate to the area of work.
  • A valid working with children check.

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum two years post-graduate experience
  • A commitment to high quality patient care
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience working as part of an effective team
  • Recent experience in an acute/sub-acute health care environment
  • Additional post-graduate experience relevant to the clinical specialty
  • Additional post-graduate experience in supervision/mentoring
  • Experience training and mentoring others including students
  • Ability to provide clinical practice and care consistent with the mission and philosophy of the facility.
  • Ability to plan and coordinate patient/resident/client care effectively maintain patient/resident/client advocacy and utilise patient/resident/client management systems.
