Position Overview
A well-established engineering consulting firm is seeking a skilled Electrical Engineer with a background in municipal water and wastewater infrastructure. This is a remote-first position ideal for candidates based in California who can attend occasional in-person meetings or site visits in the Irvine area as needed.
The role supports senior engineers and project managers with the planning design and construction support of electrical and control systems. The ideal candidate combines strong technical design skills with effective communication and the ability to work independently in a remote setting.
Key Responsibilities
Perform advanced calculations and technical evaluations for electrical and control systems
Design electrical components for water-related facilities including:
SCADA systems MCCs HMI interfaces PLC panel layouts P&IDs network diagrams and lighting
Develop technical reports memos and documentation
Assist in preparing construction drawings technical specifications and cost estimates
Support engineering tasks during bidding and construction phases
Conduct site assessments and attend job walks typically with advance scheduling
Participate in virtual team collaboration and occasional in-person project meetings
Provide quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) on deliverables
Assist with proposal development and technical support for clients
Coordinate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and mentor junior engineers when applicable
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering (Masters degree preferred)
Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in California
8 years of experience in electrical design for public infrastructure particularly water/wastewater
Familiarity with:
National Electrical Code (NEC) local codes and Greenbook standards
Design software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D and electrical analysis tools
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word Excel Outlook Project PowerPoint)
Strong written and verbal communication skills suited to remote collaboration
Experience working with California municipalities and public agencies preferred
Ability to travel occasionally to the Irvine office or Southern California project sites for meetings and coordination
