Our campuses foster a collaborative team environment with extraordinary educators who are committed to ongoing learning reflection and professional growth.What does a College Counselor at Prospect Hill doThe College Counselor will work closely with the Director of College and School Counseling to implement a comprehensive college counseling program in the High School and Collegiate Institute. The College Counselor will work with students in preparing their college applications including navigating financial aid and scholarship opportunities; writing letters of recommendation; organizing college forums and career events; teaching college preparation classes; communicating with parents/guardians throughout the college application process; networking with colleges and universities. The College Counselor will also collaborate closely with faculty to support students and attend High School/Collegiate Institute faculty meetings and professional development.College Selection and Application Process
  • Provide direct and individualized college counseling to members of the senior class each year
  • Meet individually with students and parents to explore and identify appropriate college options; plan and implement events to educate and support families in the college application process
  • Monitor individual student progress throughout the college application process
  • Prepare and send letters of recommendation transcripts and other supplementary materials for college applications
  • Coordinate opportunities for students to engage with college representatives including: college tours local college fairs and admission officer school visits
  • Cultivate relationships with college admissions representatives and network regularly with college admissions departments
  • Help students identify and pursue other appropriate post-secondary options where appropriate
College Preparation & Success
  • Teach sections of weekly college preparation classes focusing on career exploration the dimensions of the application SAT preparation the application process college essay alternative programs and transitions to college
  • Facilitate a mock-SAT for all juniors as well as assist students with registering for SATs
  • Create a college-going culture throughout the school by developing 9th and 10th grade college prep curriculum and resources and coordinating 9th-11th grade parent programs
Financial Aid Application and Renewal
  • Provide education for students and families around FAFSA completion and CSS profile completion
  • Meet individually with families and students to complete FAFSA and CSS profile
  • Assist students with the Financial Aid verification process
  • Facilitate lessons during College Prep course related to financial aid process
  • Organize and run FAFSA Completion Night
  • Maintain and update a comprehensive college scholarship database
  • Collect financial aid award letters and support students in comparing financial aid packages
  • Assist students with financial aid appeals
Additional responsibilities:
  • Participate in College Counseling Department programming
  • Attend and participate in other meetings as deemed necessary by supervisor
  • Any additional responsibilities or tasks requested or assigned by supervisor
