An ophthalmic medical technician has a range of duties relating to the care and treatment of patients eye health. This typically entails providing examinations to help physician diagnose eye ailments and diseases and preparing medication to be prescribed as necessary. The eye examinations performed by the ophthalmic assistant consist of chief complaint medical history review of systems visual acuity testing refraction intraocular pressure check dilation and diagnostic testing. Preferred work experience in ophthalmology or optometry. Preferred work experience in healthcare. High School diploma or equivalent required.
