Job Description

Classification Title:

Deputy Building Code Administrator

Classification Minimum Requirements:

Masters degree in engineering architecture fire safety building construction or public administration; or a bachelors degree engineering architecture fire safety building construction or public administration and ten years of appropriate experience; or an Associate Degree and/or technical certification in building plumbing mechanical electrical or fire with 20 years experience. Licensed as a Building Code Administrator by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation or Office of State Fire Marshall and licensed in two or more disciplines as: A building plumbing mechanical electrical or fire safety inspector I A building plumbing mechanical electrical or fire safety inspector II plans reviewer

Job Description:

Conduct on-site and virtual inspections for compliance with adopted codes approved plans and specifications. Prepare written inspection reports for use by the contractor and owner.

Review and approve installation of materials and methods for compliance with adopted codes which involves general construction structural roofing mechanical plumbing fire and/or electrical disciplines in accordance with experience training licenses and certifications.

Review and interpret drawings for compliance with building plumbing mechanical fire and electrical codes relating to renovations and construction projects for UF UNF SBAC and FSDB. Occasionally interpretation of the codes will be required during field inspections for the proper application of code provisions and contract documents.

Act as UF liaison with various regulatory agencies i.e. State Fire Marshall as well as architects engineers and contractors. Provide written and oral assistance with code interpretation for code compliance presented at plan review meetings field investigations as well as for related safety issues. Assist other EH&S entities (Fire Equipment Lab Safety Pest Control etc.) with resolving issues found during their inspections of projects or UF departmental functions.

Issue permits for UF projects by examining building permit applications (including plans specifications surveys product approvals shop drawings and other required documents) for compliance with the Florida Building Code Florida Statutes and other regulations related to building construction.

Supervise the staff of inspectors and plans examiners. This includes enforcing the policies established by the Associate Director Building Code Administrator. These include Building Codes departmental operations; communicating EH&S departmental changes and updated policies through email and meetings; reviewing comments generated during plan reviews and inspections and responses by staff to other UF/Non-UF entities to ensure consistent interpretation and application of the codes within Building Codes department; approving leave time and timesheet entries; reviewing performance and documenting actions through the UF Engaged system and/or as needed when corrective guidance is required;.

Operate UF/state vehicle(s) to and from inspection sites.

Licensed in two or more disciplines as a building plumbing mechanical fire safety or electrical inspector and as a building plumbing mechanical fire safety or electrical plans reviewer in addition to licensure as a Building Code Administrator by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation and/or Office of State Fire Marshal.

Valid Florida driver license Required

Post-offer health assessment and Criminal Background Check Required

NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE:

  • Monday through Friday 08:00 AM to 05:00 PM
  • 40 hours/per week
  • Travel to and from inspection sites
Expected Salary:$70000.00 to $114000.00 AnnuallyRequired Qualifications:

Preferred:

EDUCATION & TRAINING: Masters degree in engineering architecture or building construction or public administration.

EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years of construction experience in each field of expertise in which certified as inspector and plan reviewer

KNOWLEDGE

  • Knowledge of Florida standard building mechanical plumbing fire safety and/or electrical codes
  • Knowledge of current construction procedures
  • Knowledge of proper building inspection procedures
  • Knowledge of Florida state statutes and regulations applying to construction-related projects SKILLS: None noted

ABILITIES

  • Ability to read building construction plans and floor plans
  • Ability to read and understand construction specifications
  • Ability to take accurate measurements
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to deal with the public in a tactful and courteous manner
  • Ability to plan organize and coordinate work assignments
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others

PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to wear and operate any required safety equipment needed to conduct standard building mechanical plumbing fire and/or electrical construction sites
  • Ability to climb
  • Ability to lift heavy objects
  • Ability to work in excessively noisy areas

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

- Criminal Background Check Required.
