Remuneration:Broadband 5/6. Level 5 from $85717 / Level 6 from $100354 plus 17% super

Why Your Role Matters
Our Technical Officers (Makerspace) provide support maintenance training and specialist advice to students and visitors at all UNSW Canberra Makerspaces. They support innovators researchers students alumni and emerging companies in learning building testing and refining their ideas within a collaborative environment that promotes open access to skills knowledge and resources. In addition the Technical Officer (Makerspace) will promote UNSW research capabilities and use their technical and local UNSW knowledge to build networks and collaborations between researchers and industry partners.
At our Makerspaces you will have access to prototyping equipment such as 3D printers laser cutters manual and CNC equipment and electronic design and testing tools.

Accountabilities
Both Technical Officer positions combine educational and technical responsibilities working collaboratively with undergraduate students and industry partners. The continuing role is ideal for someone innovative and community-minded as it will lead and expand university activities within the Makerspaces. The fixed-term role will focus on establishing and promoting the new Makerspace at UNSW Canberra City. While still technical in nature this position also requires strong external engagement skills and an entrepreneurial approach.

Who You Are (skills and experience)

At Level 5:

  • Completion of a relevant certificate or post-trade certificate or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through any other combination of education training and/or experience. A trade certificate in electronics fitting and machining manufacturing or fabrication would be highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated experience in 3D printing laser cutting CNC machining and the use of CAM software including the ability to produce engineering models using CAD software packages.
  • Good written and verbal English communication skills with a demonstrated ability to communicate and interact effectively with a diverse audience at a technical level.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team member or independently as required in a training workshop or prototyping environment.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.

At Level 6 (in addition to Level 5 skills and experience):

  • The ability to build a strategic network to promote and facilitate research ideas between industry other external stakeholders and UNSW Canberras Researchers
  • A demonstrated ability to design develop deliver and assess practical and theoretical skills through technical training
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience and/or demonstrated project management experience
