Job Description

Overview
The Medical Transcriptionist for an Ultrasound Centre plays a crucial role in the healthcare documentation ecosystem. This position is essential for ensuring that the transcription of medical records accurately reflects the notes comments and findings from ultrasound examinations. The Medical Transcriptionist listens to recorded audio files from ultrasound specialists and transcribes them into textual format for patient records. This documentation is vital for diagnostic purposes treatment plans and maintaining comprehensive patient histories. Accuracy attention to detail and a deep understanding of medical terminology are paramount in this role. The transcriptionist must have a strong command of the English language exceptional typing skills and the ability to manage time effectively to meet tight deadlines. In addition maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to HIPAA compliance are critical responsibilities. The role is integral in bridging the communication between healthcare providers and ensuring that high-quality care is delivered to patients.
Key Responsibilities
  • Listen carefully to recorded audio files of ultrasound examinations.
  • Accurately transcribe reports using appropriate medical terminology.
  • Edit and proofread transcriptions to ensure precision and clarity.
  • Ensure all medical records are maintained in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Work closely with radiologists and ultrasound technicians to clarify any ambiguous notes.
  • Organize and maintain electronic files of transcribed documents.
  • Entry of transcribed data into patient management systems.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information at all times.
  • Summarize findings into concise reports for patient charts.
  • Respond to inquiries from medical staff regarding transcribed documents.
  • Keep abreast of updates in medical terminology and transcription guidelines.
  • Utilize transcription software and tools proficiently.
  • Participate in ongoing training and development opportunities.
  • Provide feedback to physicians on dictation clarity and content.
  • Assist in the development of transcription-related policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent; Associates degree preferred.
  • Certification in medical transcription (preferred).
  • Proven experience as a medical transcriptionist particularly in ultrasound.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy.
  • Exceptional typing skills with a minimum of 60 words per minute.
  • Proficient in the use of computer systems and transcription software.
  • Excellent listening and comprehension skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Good communication skills for collaboration with medical staff.
  • Understanding of HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Strong analytical skills for problem-solving within transcription processes.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
  • Flexibility in working hours if necessary.
  • Continuous learning attitude to adapt to changes in medical best practices.
