General Summary
Under general supervision coordinates all administrative activities relative to the Adult Stem Cell Transplant and Cellular Therapy Program within the Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Cancer Center including validating and appealing reimbursement coverage coordinating pre-hospitalization testing and assuring thorough patient follow-up. Represents the Transplant and Cellular Therapy Program to patients families referring physicians hospital staff and local state and federal agencies and organizations.
Principal Responsibilities and Tasks
The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.
- Facilitates the Stem Cell Transplant and Cellular Therapy Program acting as a resource to all members of the health care team.
- Develops maintains currency of and monitors variances of Transplant and Cellular Therapy related standard operating procedures.
- Manages a group of patients in the process of being evaluated for stem cell transplant or cellular therapy facilitating patient referral patient education Patient evaluations and other management within the Transplant and Cellular Therapy Program.
- Establishes and maintains frequent contact with referring physicians and institutions to ensure the timely transmission of pertinent medical records pathology slides and diagnostic test results. Communicates same to medical staff.
- Maintains procedures to ensure the appropriate and acceptable financial coverage for Stem Cell Transplant and Cellular Therapy patients in conjunction with the BMT Financial Coordinator and the Managed Care Department.
- Maintains relationships with external donor registrars and facilitates unrelated donor stem cell collection to ensure appropriate billing for all hospital and physician services
- Responds to requests for data and information from the Managed Care Division related to the stem cell transplant program.
Qualifications :
Education and Experience
- Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland or eligible to practice due to Compact state agreements outlined through the MD Board of Nursing is required.
- Two years professional experience in an oncology treatment setting is strongly preferred.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of chemotherapy radiation therapy and their associated side effects are required.
- Demonstrated ability to plan organize and follow through on assignments and/or projects. Ability to analyze and conceptually develop ideas and proposals.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work with multidisciplinary teams are required.
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and ability to assess data reflective of the patients requirements relative to his or her population-specific and age specific needs.
- Highly effective verbal and written communication skills are required to work successfully with a diverse group of staff at various levels within the organization.
