Position Overview The IBHS Non-Clinical Health & Wellness Advocate plays a vital role in supporting the behavioral health and overall well-being of North Carolina National Guard (NCNG) Service Members their families and other Reserve Component members. Working within the Integrated Behavioral Health System (IBHS) this position focuses on non-clinical case management resource coordination and community engagement to ensure timely access to care and support services.Minimum Qualifications Education:
Bachelors or Masters degree in a behavioral health science
Experience:
With a Masters degree: Minimum 3 years post-graduate experience in a social work or human services setting or 1 year in a military environment
With a Bachelors degree: Minimum 5 years post-graduate experience in a social work or 1 year in a military environment
Core Competencies & Requirements
Adhere to HIPAA and the Privacy Act in all client interactions and documentation
Maintain ethical standards of conduct in accordance with IBHS and professional guidelines
Ensure secure and accurate documentation of all cases using the IBHS Electronic Medical Record (EMR) via the MS Teams Closed Channel
Stay informed on applicable state and military regulations IBHS policies and SOPs
Participate in ongoing professional development through IBHS continuing education performance improvement initiatives and EMR system training
Serve in a scheduled capacity on the 24/7 IBHS Help Line in alignment with program SOPs
Immediately escalate crisis situations involving high-risk mentally unstable or suicidal individuals to the appropriate licensed professionals
Key Responsibilities Daily Responsibilities:
Deliver non-clinical case management and care coordination for clients navigating behavioral health and substance use challenges
Coordinate care across multiple systems including the VA military medical services local providers hospitals and public/private community resources
Facilitate culturally and linguistically appropriate access to care using registries health IT tools and internal systems
Provide referrals for essential support services such as housing food assistance utilities financial support and shelter access
Support service members by establishing connections to both internal and external support networks in accordance with IBHS protocols
Obtain and manage consent documentation in compliance with program standards
Monthly Responsibilities:
Compile and submit detailed case management and high-priority case reports to the Contracting Officers Representative (COR) Lead Psychotherapist and IBHS Director
As Needed:
Represent IBHS at community events to develop partnerships identify new resources and promote support services
Deliver behavioral health awareness briefings at Yellow Ribbon events unit orientations and similar engagements
Work Environment
Health & Wellness Advocates operate in a mobile capacity and do not have permanent office assignments
This role involves frequent presence at various NCNG armories and units to ensure consistent visibility and engagement with Service Members
Regular travel within the assigned region is expected to maintain relationships and support clients in diverse settings
