Position Summary The IBHS Psychotherapist supports the behavioral health and emotional well-being of North Carolina National Guard (NCNG) Service Members their families and members of other Reserve Components. As a key team member within the Integrated Behavioral Health System (IBHS) the Psychotherapist delivers trauma-informed clinical services in outpatient settings both in person and via telehealth and ensures seamless care coordination across military and civilian systems.Minimum Qualifications Education:
Masters degree in behavioral health or a related social science discipline
Licensure:
Active unrestricted North Carolina license as an independent-level provider (LCSW LPC or LMFT)
Experience:
Minimum of 3 years post-licensure clinical experience in:
Behavioral health individual couples and family counseling
Mental health crisis intervention
Domestic or workplace violence counseling
Trauma care psychopathology and psychosocial dynamics
Core Competencies & Requirements
Strict adherence to HIPAA and Privacy Act regulations; ability to clearly explain client rights and privacy practices
Professional conduct in accordance with ethical standards and IBHS guidelines
Document all client interactions and care plans using the secure IBHS Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system via MS Teams Closed Channel
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of state federal and military mental health protocols and IBHS Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
Attend IBHS-specific training and continuing education events to stay current on treatment modalities and program standards
Provide on-call behavioral health coverage for the 24/7 IBHS Help Line as scheduled
Deliver consultation services to Service Members who are using (or transitioning from) Military Treatment Facilities (MTFs) VA services or civilian care networks such as TRICARE
Key Responsibilities Initial Onboarding:
Complete a six-month onboarding and mentorship program with a senior IBHS Psychotherapist covering systems such as the EMR NCNG procedures military culture and specific behavioral health challenges experienced by Guard members and their families
Daily Duties:
Conduct clinical assessments crisis intervention (telephonic and in-person) treatment planning and therapy sessions using evidence-based trauma modalities including CPT PE EMDR and Accelerated Resolution Therapy
Manage a clinical caseload in an outpatient setting embedded within NCNG armories and Family Assistance Centers
Identify behavioral health trends and draft reports for internal analysis
Coordinate referrals to appropriate internal and external care providers and ensure continuity of care
Provide follow-up support to clients in accordance with treatment plans and IBHS SOPs
Monthly Duties:
Visit assigned NCNG facilities to maintain a presence and promote awareness of available IBHS services
Quarterly Duties:
Deliver Critical Incident Stress Debriefings to units upon request
Submit required documentation (bio-psychosocial evaluations case notes treatment plans) to the Contracting Officers Representative (COR) IBHS Lead Psychotherapist and IBHS Director
As Needed:
Provide psychoeducational briefings at events such as Yellow Ribbon programs funeral honors unit briefings and orientations
Consult with NCNG Command leadership on behavioral health concerns including recommendations for treatment or referrals
Serve as a liaison between military and civilian support networks
Psychotherapists may be expected to travel up to 25% of the time
While limited telework arrangements may be available under special circumstances (e.g. COVID-19) this position is primarily in-person to foster relationship-building and reduce stigma around behavioral health services in the military community
Occasional in-person meetings may be necessary to effectively support client care or respond to urgent clinical needs
