Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Preschool Student Transition Assistant will assist the teacher with playing a vital role in providing essential support to children during their transition into a new school environment. The primary focus of this position will be to address the various emotional social health and educational needs of preschoolers to ensure a smooth and positive adjustment.

QUALIFICATIONS: PS Transition I: High School diploma or equivalent. PS Transition II: Child Development Associate (CDA). PS Transition III: Associates of Arts Degree (Early childhood education and/or special education)

Must be at least 18 years of age. Previous experience in the field of Early Childhood Education is preferred. Provide evidence of a Level One fingerprint clearance card and obtain a fingerprint clearance card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety within twelve weeks of employment negative TB clearance within the last 12 months and current immunizations. Provide evidence of an initial health exam within the last 12 months CPR/First Aid Certification and Maricopa County Environmental Services Food Handlers Card are required. All certifications must be maintained in a current status. Ability to kneel stoop bend and sit on the floor to attend to childrens needs. Ability to lift up to fifty pounds when required. Desire to pursue additional training in job-related areas.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Emotional Support: Assists the teacher with offering individualized emotional support and guidance to children exhibiting signs of separation anxiety fear or emotional distress. Implement strategies to foster a sense of security and well-being within the preschool environment.
  • Social Interaction Facilitation: Assists the teacher with creating and facilitating activities that encourage safe social interaction among children while promoting peer relationships and cooperative play.
  • Learning Reinforcement: Assists the teacher with identifying learning gaps or developmental delays in children including potty training and introducing age-appropriate concepts and skills in a playful and engaging manner. Collaborate with educators to design and implement tailored learning activities and schedules that support the development of necessary skills and bridge learning disparities.
  • Parental Collaboration: Assists the teacher with communicating regularly with parents to address concerns provide updates on their childs adjustment progress and offer guidance on reinforcing safety measures and emotional support at home.
  • Collaboration with Preschool Team: Assists the teacher with working closely with educators counselors and administrative staff to create and implement a cohesive support system sharing insights and strategies to enhance the overall well-being and adjustment of preschoolers.
  • Documentation and Assessment: Assists the teacher with maintaining accurate records of childrens progress and development using observations and assessments to inform instructional planning and support ongoing growth.
  • Professional Development: Assists the teacher with staying informed about best practices in early childhood education and transition support participating in professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills.

SALARY: Nine (9) months beginning salary Level 26-Level 29 employee benefits in accordance with Board Policies.

EVALUATION: Performance to be evaluated in accordance with Board Policy on the evaluation of support staff.
