SHERIFFS TECHNICIAN
Salary may be negotiable within the range listed above based on position requirements and successful candidates qualifications subject to appropriate authorization.

This recruitment isopen to the publicand is being held to establish an eligible list to fill current and future Sheriffs Technician vacancies within the Sheriff-Coroner Department. This recruitment may also be used to fill position in similar and/or lower level classifications.
THE DEPARTMENT
The Orange County Sheriffs Department is the fifth largest Sheriffs Department in the nation offering a rewarding career with the opportunity to serve Orange County in diverse assignments. The Sheriffs Department is composed of over 3978 sworn and professional employees and has 19 separate budgets totaling over $1.2 billion and annual revenues of over $955 million. THE DIVISION
Court Operations is a division under Professional Services Command of the Sheriffs Department. The Court Operations Division includes bailiff and detention operations warrant services and civil process services. The Court Operations Division has an authorized strength of 384 employees 328 sworn and special officer positions and 56 professional staff. The majority of Court Operations employees are assigned to Court Services. Assignments in this activity include bailiff duties custody movement and public safety weapons screening and building security.
Applicant must be at least 18 years of age.
Applicant must have no felony convictions or be on any form of probation and must pass an extensive background investigation to the satisfaction of the Orange County Sheriff-Coroner Department.
Background screening includes completing of a Personal History Form interview with a background investigator fingerprinting and may include a polygraph test. Some of the areas considered in the background screening include prior convictions traffic violations drug use and credit problems employment history professional references and education verification (i.e. degree license or official transcripts). Foreign degrees require an evaluation of U.S. equivalency by an agency that is a member of the National Association of Credentials Evaluation Services (N.A.C.E.S.).

Physical and Mental Requirements: Vision sufficient to read fine print computer screens and printouts; drive long periods during the day and after dark; ability to speak and hear sufficiently to communicate clearly over the phone hand-held radio and in person; independent body mobility agility and stamina to stand walk stoop bend twist and sit for prolonged periods of time; flexibility and stamina; manual dexterity sufficient to perform repetitive movements for various duties such as writing filing using a calculator and computer and a clipboard; ability to reach and grasp above shoulder level; body strength sufficient to lift and carry files a briefcase and some small office machines up to 25 pounds; all assignments require driving a county vehicle.
Environmental and Working Conditions: Incumbents will be required to work in the field exposed to all weather conditions while driving and walking. Incumbents assigned to fieldwork or security in county facilities may come in contact with members of the public who are angry or impatient and who may become hostile or verbally abusive during the encounter. The work environment in any assignment may involve significant stress and pressure engendered by the workload and performance expectations. Incumbents in security assignments may be exposed to minimal radiation via weapons screening equipment but exposure is monitored at all times.

Written Exam Multiple Choice Exam (Weighted 100%)
Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be invited to the written exam. The written exam consists of job-related multiple-choice questions. Only the highest scoring candidates will be placed on the eligible list.
Based on the Departments needs the selection procedure listed above may be modified. All candidates will be notified of any changes in the selection procedure.
ELIGIBLE LIST
After all procedures have been completed the Sheriffs Human Resources will establish an eligible list of qualified candidates. Candidates placed on the eligible list may be referred to a selection interview to be considered for present and future vacancies.
