We are hiring 2 Board of Appeals Support Specialist Trainees (Revenue Tax Specialist Trainees) for the Board of Appeals office located in Chicago IL. In this position you will be trained on how to assist taxpayers and their representatives with delinquent tax issues learn the current Illinois tax laws and review Board of Appeals petitions received from taxpayers requesting relief from final liabilities. Essential Functions
- Under immediate supervision receives six to twelve months of closely supervised instruction and on-the-job training accepting and completing assignments of increasing difficulty for the purpose of gaining experience and developing skills that allow the trainee to perform technical analysis of routine tax accounts referred to the Board of Appeals (BOA).
- Receives training on the use of GenTax MyTax and other IDOR computer systems and software to update BOA cases in BOA case manager.
- Completes training which includes indoctrination and instructions in current Illinois State tax laws rules and regulations Program Area workflow and work procedures collection techniques including commonly used terminology acronym and utilization of various tax related forms and documents.
- Receives training related to communication skills business writing telephone and interpersonal competence skills.
- Receives training as to the rules and procedures concerning the Voluntary Disclosure Program.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of four years of college; OR four years of work experience providing tax related support functions within a program area at the Illinois Department of Revenue.
Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this class.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires the ability to successfully complete a tax compliance and fingerprint-based background check.
- Requires the ability to use and secure a state issued mobile device e.g. cellular phone laptop computer tablet etc.
