What youll do

Responsibilities

What youll be doing:

  • You will provide technical assistance for projects led by the Research Scientist at the Applied Geomatics Research Group. This involves assisting with day-to-day operations of a project to meet the research objectives and commitments with collaborating partners and funding agencies.
  • On a daily basis you may be working on one or more research projects. This position may conduct fieldwork in support of data acquisition missions which may require both indoor and outside working environments.
  • Innovative and committed to life-long learning the Research Associate is a creative self-starter with a commitment to research excellence.

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • A diploma advanced diploma or degree in a related field or discipline specific to the nature of the research.
  • You have a minimum of two years (full time equivalent) of recent and related occupational experience in a research environment.
  • Occupational experience that includes student project and other research employment would be considered an asset.
  • You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite E-mail GIS software including ArcPro and QGIS VSCode CloudCompare. You are comfortable working in both a Windows and Linux environment.
  • You have experience with scripting software and web development including programming in python (conda numpy scikit-learn) C/C (GDAL PDAL) java javascript/typescript (OpenLayers WebGL npm potree vite).
  • You are familiar with geographic data and meta data standards such as LAS TIFF GeoJSON SQLite (GeoPackage). Experience with PostgreSQL would be considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience in various aspects of full-stack development including server deployment codebase development maintaining custom packages distributing code/compiled software internally and web application deployment and maintenance for external clients.
  • You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology in advancing your work You have experience developing geographic web map applications using technology such as Leaflet.
  • Experience supporting/providing service to students and prospective students would be considered an asset

  • Demonstrated initiative and a commitment to achieving high-quality outcomes and project objectives.
