As a Principal R&D Engineer supporting (Life Sciences) work includes: Applying mechanical and electrical engineering principles to develop medical devices that meet customer technical/functional specifications as well as manufacturing cost/efficiency requirements. This role is on site in our Belmont CA location and a typical day would include:
- Lead the design and development of components fixtures and metrology systems to advance the development of innovative intraocular lens (IOL) and technologies.
- Develop and implement automated manufacturing processes to streamline the production of Intraocular lenses.
- Conduct experiments and root cause analysis to address emerging manufacturing or design defects.
- Collaborate closely with subject matter experts from a cross-functional team of mechanical optics manufacturing and materials scientists to develop new methodologies materials or equipment as necessary to meet project milestones for intraocular lens development.
- Prepare and deliver test protocols technical reports presentations and other relevant documentation for internal and external submissions.
- Participate in cross-functional R&D activities serving as a functional representative in various core-team and sub-team project meetings.
- Establish relationships with suppliers and contract manufacturers building the capability to support manufacturing scale-up.
What Youll Bring to Alcon:
- Bachelors Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school 13 yrs; Assoc.9 yrs; M.S.2 yrs; PhD0 yrs)
- The ability to fluently read write understand and communicate in English
- 5 Years of Relevant Experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters degree with five years of experience or bachelors degree with seven years of experience (Mechanical Engineering Biomedical Engineering Chemical Engineering)
- Extensive experience in product development preferably within the medical device industry.
- The ability to fluently read write understand and communicate in English
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
