Embedded Software Architect

MISSION

Thales Belgium (Herstal site) is a world leader in precision guided rocket system for helicopters and jet aircraft. In order to meet its ambitious production and product development roadmap Thales wants to reinforce its technical team and is looking for an engineer who wants to develop himself as an embedded software.

As an Embedded Software Architect you will integrate a multidisciplinary team of development within the Engineering department. You will be required in the context of on firing systems or smart ammunitions to specify design develop validate and test embedded software. You will have the opportunity to work with innovated systems and tools in a high-tech environment. You will be expected to support multiple projects and as such will require planning and organizing skills.

RESPONSIBILITY

• Designs and develops the software architecture for embedded systems and produces architectural and interface documentation
• Ensures that software architecture stability is maintained across lifecycle phases from Bid to Delivery
• Directs and coordinates software architecture studies
• Approves the technical technological and methodological choices taken in respect of the selected software architecture
• Provides technical leadership to the software development team
• Ensures the integration of the software with hardware components
• Based on upper system specifications allocates power processing data budgets to define a software solution
• Writes low- and high-level software requirements and ensures traceability between requirements
• Maintains and upgrades existing embedded systems
• Develops software on microprocessors bare metal or Linux RTOS architecture
• Guarantees adherence to applicable software and project standards reuse policy and product development plans; Identifies modelling simulation and prototyping opportunities
• Is knowledgeable of state-of-the-art software architecture methodology taking account of future developments;
• Monitors on-going technological developments
• Coordinates with the Product Design Authority (PDA) in order to make sure that the top down refinement of the solution is consistent with the software strategy and constraints including COTS & OSS selection and components reuse
• Understands and solves the constraints of real-time applications low/high level communications multi-tread management memory concurrency etc.
• Uses configuration managements tools (GIT BitBucket Jenkins SonarQube)
• Ensure code quality (SonarQube) by checking code coverage (test coverage) and verify the software using unit testing procedure
• Debug low level software using oscilloscopes debug probes
• Participates to internal project reviews
• Can defend and clarify the solutions architecture within the company and with customers

PROFILE

• You graduated with a Masters Degree in Software or Electronic Engineer with 10 years of experience
• You are architect and senior developer in C and Python language on embedded systems real time application C language is a plus
• You understand the challenges of embedding real time solution in micro-controllers bare metal or Linux RTOS architecture (knowledges Yocto and Docker is a plus)
• You have an experience in multiprocessor applications close to HW and communication systems (CAN UART SPI I2C Ethernet TCP-IP and Phy MIL-STD-1553/1760 ARINC429 )
• You are familiar NXP processors Holt remote terminal interfaces Lauterbach TRACE32 development tools and SEGGER debug probes
• You are a good communicator you can show pedagogy to support other developers
• You are self-motivated and like to take initiatives
• You are able to work in an Agile culture and is fully aware of a waterfall / V-model project processes and is familiar with project milestones and reviews
• You enjoy following the latest trends in innovation
• An experience in aeronautical spatial defence or automotive industry as well as a knowledge of the standards DO-178 ARP4754 or ISO26262 is a plus.
