About the Role
The Clinical Nurse Scrub/Scout provides advanced perioperative nursing care while also coordinating theatre shifts and leading a designated surgical specialty (e.g. Orthopaedics Urology Pain Management).
The role combines direct clinical expertise with operational leadership to ensure smooth safe and efficient surgical lists. The Clinical Nurse promotes excellence in patient care mentors team members and supports continuous improvement initiatives. Flexibility is key to this position with the expectation of stepping into various specialties and leadership functions according to service needs.
Essential:
Current registration as a Registered Nurse with Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia though the Australian Health Practitioner Regulations Agency (AHPRA).
Significant scrub/scout experience across multiple specialties.
Proven leadership skills including previous experience as a team leader in-charge or shift coordinator.
Advanced knowledge of surgical workflows perioperative risk management and specialty-specific practices.
High-level critical thinking problem-solving and communication skills.
Ability to work flexibly across specialties and support multiple theatre teams.
Proven ability to respond to emergencies and critical incidents effectively.
Exhibit a strong work ethic by consistently displaying punctuality integrity respect for others and a dedication to professional standards.
Proficient in:
Problem solving and analytical abilities.
Organisational skills.
Effective communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
Recognises that additional duties and responsibilities may be required occasionally beyond those outlined in this document.
You will be required to have or able to obtain:
Tertiary qualification in nursing and current registration as a Registered Nurse with Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia though the Australian Health Practitioner Regulations Agency (AHPRA).
Verification of eligibility to work in Australia.
Identification check validation.
Police check clearance.
Working with Children (WWC) check.
Desirable:
Possession of a relevant postgraduate qualification in perioperative nursing is required.
Prior experience in a leadership role such as a supervisory or shift coordination position will be considered highly advantageous.
Commitment to ongoing professional development and quality improvement initiatives.
