Description

North Greenville University is a teaching university of the South Carolina Baptist Convention and is a tobacco and alcohol-free campus. All NGU professors are expected to be orthodox Christians who have a strong personal faith are role models in their piety and ethics are regularly reflecting upon how their faith influences their discipline and are willing and able to mentor students in their own relationship with Jesus Christ. Faculty are expected to:

  • Teach in accordance with and not contrary to the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.
  • Teach in accordance with and not contrary to the universitys Statement on Human Flourishing.
  • Abide by the employee and faculty handbooks including community standard agreements.

Candidates must have a Christian commitment and the ability to integrate the Christian faith with traditional coursework. Applicants should have a background and/or professional experience in theatre performance acting instruction and related coursework.

Position Summary:
The School of Theatre at North Greenville University is seeking qualified adjunct instructors to join our teaching pool in the areas of Acting Performance Styles Audition Techniques and Introductory Theatre Courses. Appointments are made on a semester by semester basis as departmental needs arise.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach one or more undergraduate courses in theatre such as Acting Performance Styles Audition Techniques Introduction to Theatre and related subjects based on experience and departmental needs.
  • Provide a classroom experience rooted in professional practice and grounded in Christian faith.
  • Mentor students in both their artistic development and spiritual formation.
  • Collaborate with other faculty and the department chair to support curricular goals.
  • Maintain availability to students for consultation and support outside of class time.
  • Participate in departmental activities as appropriate.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Visual Abilities: Read scripts and teaching materials; demonstrate performance techniques.
  • Hearing: Communicate clearly with students in a classroom or studio setting.
  • Mobility: Move within classroom/rehearsal spaces and demonstrate physical elements of performance.
  • Talking: Convey instructions and feedback clearly and effectively.
  • Cognitive/Emotional: Ability to analyze student work provide thoughtful feedback and support student growth.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
This is a part-time adjunct faculty position within the School of Theatre. Adjunct faculty report to the Chair of the School of Theatre and may coordinate with full-time faculty as needed.

WORK SCHEDULE
Courses are assigned on a per-semester basis. Class times may vary and could include daytime or evening sections depending on department needs.

TRAVEL
Minimal travel required. Occasional attendance at performances or events may be requested.

Qualifications

  • MFA in Theatre Acting Performance or a related field; or significant professional experience in the performing arts.
  • College-level teaching experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in performance or instruction.
  • Understanding of and ability to articulate the integration of Christian faith with artistic practice.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
