Job Description

The Pharmacy Delivery Driver will support the pharmacy in serving as a courier delivering medications to either patient homes or to internal locations. Perform duties of a pharmacy cashier to support the team as needed. Work closely with the management team to enforce department policies & procedures pharmacy laws pharmacy best practices and staff training.

This position will work at our West Modesto Pharmacy.

Schedule will require flexibility to work Monday Saturday working between the hours of 11:00am 7:30pm.

Compensation: $22.19 - $23.30 an hour

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Organize materials route and time for pickup and delivery of prescriptions/medication.
  • Responsible for all deliveries and maintains strictest confidentiality.
  • Maintains an accurate log of locations and mileage each day and submits to the pharmacy management personnel.
  • Ensures patient data and information is accurate when entering prescription data into pharmacy software by reading the prescription; translating prescription information into corresponding system codes; and transcribing appropriately.
  • Ensures effective customer service by monitoring and resolving problems in the prescription fulfillment process by processing information for third party insurance claims; rescanning illegible images; alerting patients to inventory that is out of stock partial fills provider authorizations on refills; and identifying situations requiring pharmacists actions and resolution.
  • Supports the work of the area by performing cashier duties.
  • Supports customer services by communicating and engaging with patients throughout the day in point of sale and in questions related to billing of insurance.
  • Promotes pharmacy services through interceptions made with patients waiting in the clinic and through clinical staff ensuring patients are taking advantage of full pharmacy services.
  • Ensures quality by maintaining the pharmacy and its merchandise; stocking and rotating merchandise and supplies handling claims and returns; answering the telephone; processing third party insurance claims; filling prior authorization forms and e-TARs; completing maintaining and securing paperwork forms and documentation.
  • Ensures quality by processing prescription pick-up in accordance with organization policies and procedures.
  • Supports health of patients and the organization by ensuring the prevention of drug diversion and fraudulent prescriptions. Reports instances of potential prescription fraud and/or diversion to the pharmacist.
  • Adheres to standard operating procedures for handling controlled substances removing outdated merchandise and disposing of trash.
  • Monitors pharmacy access and maintains security measures.
  • Ensures pharmacy meets departmental policy and expectations by keeping the pharmacy neat clean organized clutter free and free of personal belongings.
  • Shows care and concern when serving our patients. Asks questions in order to understand patients needs. Uses policies and information in order to exceed patients expectations. Finds and uses the right resources (people products tools) at the right time in order to resolve patients requests.
  • Shows integrity and ethical behavior reports ethical and compliance issues promptly.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands

  • Lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Moving lifting or pushing greater than 30 pounds should be done with assistance as appropriate.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • High manual dexterity.
  • Reach above shoulder level bend squat sit stand stoop crouch reach kneel twist/turn and good finger sensation.
  • Hearing adequate for phone work and clear speech for staff and patient communication.

Work Environment

The noise level in the work environment is usually average.

Education/Experience Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to successfully interact with patients family members and staff.
  • Ability to use electronic health records and pharmacy management software.
  • Interact collaboratively with medical care team and other staff members.
  • Collect data and participate in relevant reporting processes.
  • Familiarity with basic office programs i.e. Microsoft word excel etc.
  • Work varying shifts in support of the department/organization as required.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
  • Valid California drivers license vehicle insurance acceptable driving record and reliable transportation.

Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous high-volume retail pharmacy experience preferred.
