Job Summary
The Director of Volunteer Services will be responsible for developing and executing a best-in-class volunteer program that includes a strong agency-wide culture of volunteering and must lead laterally working in partnership with all departments to develop and maintain comprehensive volunteer programs. Additionally the Director of Volunteer Services will administer all aspects of the organizations volunteer programs from recruitment onboarding training to daily responsibilities and recognition; our volunteers should feel valued prepared and integrated into the SafeNest team. The Director of Volunteer Services will also help drive SafeNests vision of engaging our community to meet the agency needs in addition to providing agency support to the VP of People and Culture as needed and should have a strong foundational knowledge in Human Resources industry best practices.
Primary Responsibilities
To achieve our ambitious goals it will be essential to create consistency in managing volunteers across SafeNests matrix of services. Building a shared vocabulary metrics for success and a comprehensive volunteer recognition program will also be critical.
Volunteer Department Management:
  • Develop and implement a strategic plan for volunteers that achieves SafeNests volunteer goals.
  • Lead the creation of SafeNests volunteer structure to optimize the experience and volunteers impact on the organization.
  • Lead the planning and execution of the annual SafeNest volunteer recognition event that consistently recognizes volunteers for their work and impact on the Clark County community and survivors.
  • Identifying new and leverage recruiting strategies for volunteers.
  • Conduct ongoing needs assessments and maintain inventory of volunteer opportunities.
  • Track and manage volunteer information in the volunteer CRM.
  • Identify and monitor appropriate metrics that provide a clear picture of success for the program.
  • Maintain files records applications and other data related to the volunteer program.
  • Draft maintain and publish guidelines best practices and procedures for volunteer program.
  • Coordinates special projects volunteer recognition and appreciation events and activities.
Volunteer (Human Capital) Management:
  • Develop and articulate clear and consistent expectations for all volunteers and SafeNest staff who manage volunteers.
  • Develop and coordinate training and provide ongoing support that enables volunteers to be successful in their activities.
  • Determine and document best practices for volunteer engagement including recruitment onboarding training meeting planning supporting the ongoing work of volunteers communications and offboarding.
  • Determine and manage the process for ongoing volunteer evaluation and accountability.
  • Gather information about each volunteers skills availability and goals; matches volunteers with appropriate opportunities based on this data.
  • Schedule coordinate and assigns volunteers to appropriate departments supervisors and/or mentors.
  • Recruit volunteer staff to fit these roles using a variety of resources and techniques.
  • Regularly communicate with volunteers to ensure placement is a good fit for individuals skills and goals.
Agency Collaboration:
  • Communicate with all departments of the organization to identify available opportunities and needs for volunteers.
  • Create a feedback mechanism for staff to provide performance information on volunteer and training needs.
  • Provide relevant information to leadership about volunteerism through short- and long-term forecasts and engagement reports.
  • Meet monthly or as needed with departments to determine volunteer levels required to meet agency and department goals.
  • Collaborate with Marketing Department to develop effective marketing strategies that encourage volunteer involvement.
  • Establish and communicate within leadership and across SafeNest well-define policies and protocols for engaging and communicating with alumni volunteers.
  • Provide support to Vice President of People and Culture as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Skills and Qualifications
  • The ideal candidate should possess a solid understanding of Human Resources with at least 3 years of current Human Resources experience.
  • Certification in Volunteer or Human Resource Management is a plus.
  • Experience working with volunteers and volunteer management.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and encourage others.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Must be outgoing comfortable talking to others on a regular basis and display professionalism at all times.
  • Can work efficiently in a team or individually.
  • Demonstrated success in managing motivating and inspiring others.
  • Excellent communication interpersonal presentation and organizational skills.
  • Strong computer software skills including MS Office Excel PowerPoint databases Canva and internal networked information systems.
  • Fast learner in internal networked information system.
  • Ability and willingness to work some weekends and evenings as needed for volunteer activities and events.

Physical Requirements and Work Conditions
  • Office environment.
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate office noise but may vary on occasion if circumstances require.
  • May work at offsite at recruiting table events and other agency events which may take place in different environments.
  • Must be able to lift up 15 pounds at a time.
