Job Summary:

This position is located in the Northern Region Traffic Engineering and supports the northwest northcentral and northeast districts. The position performs the work of a traffic analyst i.e. traffic studies speed studies etc. The traffic analyst in the region has much responsibility and authority they represent the Regional Traffic Engineer and sometimes the District Engineer while responding to calls and correspondence from the public and local government staff.

They are instrumental in policy change and have been successful in developing new programs. They are team oriented and proactive. They analyze the traffic studies and then use the basis for problem solving to complex engineering problems. They are responsible for their region in every aspect related to traffic engineering capacity signals geometric problems signing and striping. Overtime and overnight travel throughout the region may be required.

This position may offer the ability to work remotely within Arizona based upon the departments business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

Job Duties:

Review proposed development plans for compliance with traffic standards and for operational efficiency. Review formal traffic impact analysis for proposed developments.

Prepare formal traffic engineering studies as needed. Conduct field inspections and collect field data district wide. Analyze operational accident and geometric data to resolve traffic safety issues.

Process work orders for signing and striping and traffic signal crews. Field review locations. Operate state vehicle while in the scope of state business.

Meet with Federal officials local government or agency officials business people or general public as representative of Regional Traffic Engineer to resolve traffic safety issues. Prepare all manners of correspondence for Regional Traffic Engineer.

Attend proposed construction project field reveiws. Review project assessments and plans for programmed projects. Attend partnering and pre-construction meetings. Assist construction units during construction.

Assist maintenance units with in-house project designs traffic control issues and emergency response planning. Solicit maintenance support for regional signing and striping unit operations.

Other duties as assigned as related to the position.

Knowledge:
- ADOT Traffic Engineering Policies Guidelines and Procedures.
- Current trade publications and the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
- ADOT Guides for Design or Traffic Control.
- ADOT Signing and Striping Standards.
- Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) Trip Generation and Land Development American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Green Boole
- ADOT Design Guide and Standard Specifications.
- ADOT Construction Standards.
- Arizona Traffic Law Title 28.
- Knowledge Google Suite Computer Programs.

Skills:
- Computer software relating to traffic analyst reports accidental reports correspondence spreadsheets and forms.
- Operation of traffic counters and radar speed data collection equipment.
- Good communication with the public members.
- Problem Solving.

Ability:
- Carry out assignment without direct supervision.
- Safely operate a state vehicle.
- Work as a team.
- Communicate technical matters to the public.
- Research answers to complex problems.

High School Diploma or GED

Pre-Employment Requirements:

This position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job and the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current valid class-appropriate drivers license complete all required training and successfully pass all necessary drivers license record checks. The license must be current unexpired and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to drivers license record checks must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R.11).

Valid AZ State Drivers License.

All newly hired State employees are subject to and must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).
