Job Description

About Us:
The Ohio Emergency Management Agency is a division of the Ohio Department of Public Safety and is the states central point of coordination for response to and recovery from disasters. When not in a response or recovery mode our focus is to ensure that Ohio and its citizens are prepared to respond to an emergency or disaster and to lead mitigation efforts against the effects of future disasters.
We interface with local state and federal agencies to bring resources of recovery and support to Ohioans impacted by disaster. Our activities also include education training planning and preparedness- strengthening Ohios first responder capabilities and improving communication across the state.
Option 1: 36 mos. exp. in electronics which included at least 12 mos. exp. in using radiation detection instruments practicing radiation safety & in training of others in radiation safety & procedures/techniques for testing calibration repair & maintenance of radiological detection & monitoring instruments; AND 9 mos. trg. or 9 mos. exp. in inventory control; AND 6 mos. trg. or 6 mos. exp. in public relations; AND valid drivers license.
Option 2: -Or completion of associate core program in electronics electronics engineering or electrical/electronic engineering; AND 12 mos. exp. in electronics which included at least 6 mos. exp. using radiation detection instruments practicing radiation safety & in training of others in radiation safety & procedures/techniques for testing calibration repair & maintenance of radiological detection & monitoring instruments; AND 9 mos. trg. or 9 mos. exp. in inventory control; AND 6 mos. trg. or 6 mos. exp. in public relations; AND valid drivers license.
Option 3: -Or 6 mos. exp. as Radiological Instrument Technician 1 84421; valid drivers license.
-Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.

UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Travel may be required; may be required to be on call 24 hrs. 7 days per week.
This position requires a valid drivers license to operate state-owned vehicle or must be able to provide own transportation.

Work Hours: 7:00AM to 4:00PM (Subject to 24-hour call)
Compensation: $24.66 to $32.08 per hour. The rate of pay is based on applicants education and experience.
Under the direction of the Radiological Instrument Service Manager develops presentation of radiological instrument operation & radiation safety training for state & county monitoring personnel repairs & services all types of radiological detection & measurement equipment & training for radiological instrument technicians in performance of electronic radiation detection equipment repair service & calibration activities using a remote cesium source & assist higher level radiological instrument technicians:
- Independently repairs services & calibrates electronic radiation detection & monitoring equipment (e.g. radiation detectors personal electronic dosimeters & pocket ion chamber dosimeters);
- Performs electronic radiation detection & monitoring equipment maintenance & repair;
- Keeps records of the field exchange & inspection of radiological detection equipment throughout the state;
- Assists in the wipe testing of the Cobalt 60 Training Source Sets & the Cesium 137 Calibration Sources;
- Assists supervisor in maintaining current inventory & an adequate stock of repair parts on hand to remain operational;
- Assists county EMA directors with radiation detection equipment needs;
- Maintains inventory records on the location of radiological equipment;
- Assists the Radiological Instrument Service Manager & higher-level radiological instrument technicians in developing & conducting radiological training presentations for personnel from state & county Emergency Management agencies & various radiological emergency responders in the use inspection & operability checks of radiation detection instruments & related equipment;
Acts as a member of the State Radiological Emergency Response Team by gathering samples & measuring radiation exposure at the incident site; Advises safety services personnel of actions to take in order to protect the public from radiation exposures; - Perform other duties as assigned.
