Special Information:

This position may be eligible for a statutory base pay increase of $1.00 an hour effective July 1 2025 and July 1 2026.

Identity of applicants who become finalists may be releases to the public if the Department deems it necessary. Specific Job Information:

The Rocky Mountain Front Maintenance Worker 2 position is part of the Parks and Outdoor Recreation Division and a member of the Region 4 maintenance team. The position reports to the Maintenance Team Supervisor and performs a wide variety of semi-skilled or manual work repairing maintaining and improving habitat areas and vegetation as well as grounds and facilities at state parks fishing access sites wildlife management areas and administrative facilities. In coordination with the Regional Maintenance Manager Maintenance Team Supervisor and other Region 4 Maintenance staff this position directly performs maintenance tasks assists in establishing workflows for regular or routine tasks actively trains and mentors seasonal staff and may be identified as crew lead for specific sites or projects.

Maintenance responsibilities include habitat maintenance such as fertilizing farming tree planting mowing and managing large scale irrigation systems; noxious weed control vault latrines; historic sites and structures; campgrounds picnic shelters; boat docks and ramps; solid rail and wire fences; paved and gravel roadways and parking areas; trails; directional information and interpretive signs/kiosks; and maintenance shop facilities and other associated infrastructure and equipment.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

The incumbent must demonstrate the ability to effectively work in a team atmosphere with regional maintenance staff. The position requires an individual capable of building and maintaining interpersonal relationships with staff and the ability to communicate effectively with the public providing accurate information about site facilities regulations fees and recreational opportunities.

The incumbent will frequently work independently without presence of a direct supervisor. They should be able to take initiative achieve and maintain a high level of quality work performance behave ethically and appropriately when serving visitors and recognize and accept authority. In certain situations awareness skills must be applied to situations where other factors may require a degree of sensitivity and restraint such as in wildlife management areas riparian areas or historic and cultural sites.

The incumbent is responsible for carrying out various types of maintenance work. They should possess the following knowledge and skills:

Possess or the ability to learn noxious weed identification treatment protocols and equipment associated with chemical control

Must possess ability to use spreadsheets and other programs necessary to complete maintenance logs and personnel reports.

Working knowledge of methods and practices of general maintenance and construction work including but not limited to carpentry plumbing welding engine repair and electrical work.

Working knowledge of the care and use of tools and operation of a variety of heavy and light construction equipment and farming equipment. This includes familiarity with routine equipment maintenance and the ability to train staff on operation.

Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience):

The knowledge skills and abilities of this position are normally attained through combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma or equivalency and three years of job-related experience. Other combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Basic First Aid/CPR certification and Government Pesticide Applicators license are required for this position. The incumbent must have to ability to acquire the proper license/certification and maintain through continuing education and re-certification testing.

This position may require a Montana Commercial Drivers License Type 2 Class B and the ability to safely and effectively drive and operate combination vehicles over 26000lbs G.V.W.
