The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) is the statutory body responsible for regulating Ontarios capital markets in accordance with the mandate established in the provincial Securities Act and the Commodity Futures Act. The mandate of the OSC is to provide protection to investors from unfair improper or fraudulent practices to foster fair efficient and competitive capital markets and confidence in the capital markets to foster capital formation and to contribute to the stability of the financial system and the reduction of systemic risk. This mandate is performed through policy operational and enforcement activities. The OSC also contributes to national and global securities regulation development.

Senior CPA

Corporate Finance Department

The Corporate Finance Department (CFD)is currently looking for a Senior CPA to join the team.CFD is responsible for the regulation in Ontario of public companies and companies raising capital in the exempt market. CFD also plays an active role in policy development within the OSC and the Canadian Securities Administrators

What you will do:

As a Senior CPA you will work on a multi-disciplinary team and report to an Associate Vice-President in the Corporate Finance Department. You will provide accounting and accounting-related securities expertise. You will be given opportunities to:

  • Review prospectuses applications for discretionary relief from securities legislation exempt market activities and continuous disclosure filings.
  • Consider complex issues and contribute to the development of policy initiatives including adapting regulatory principles to industry trends and emerging issues.
  • Take a leadership role on both policy and operational work.
  • Interact with other OSC divisions market participants and their advisors and others engaged with the capital markets.
  • Deal with complex and novel issues.

As the ideal candidate you:

  • Have a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation in good standing in Ontario.
  • Have a minimum 8-year post-designation relevant experience in Canadian capital markets financial services and/or a securities regulatory environment.
  • Have comprehensive knowledge of IFRS.
  • Have knowledge of capital markets and the ability to exercise good judgement.
  • Have concise written and verbal communication skills.
  • Have an interest in the concepts and principles that underlie accounting and securities regulation and an ability to apply those concepts and principles in the regulation of Ontarios capital markets.
  • Have a demonstrated ability to establish collaborative working relationships and work on a team.
  • Can effectively balance regulatory objectives with practical business considerations.
  • Possess strong analytical project management and communication skills.
  • Can successfully organize and manage multiple complex projects and set and adjust priorities.
