Job Description

Salary Information

Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.

**A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and Montgomery Personnel Board Rules & Regulations**

Nature of Work

The fundamental reason the classification exists is to enforce the Cityof Montgomery Zoning Ordinances. The work responsibilities include inspecting zoningprojects to enforce compliance with city zoning; investigating complaintsregarding the Zoning Ordinance; and communicating inspection results to personsof interest for the purpose of providing information. Otherduties include inspecting residential and commercial structures and lots forcompliance with ordinances and related regulations and requirements enforcingthe City of Montgomery codes and ordinances pertaining to deteriorateddilapidated and unsanitary conditions the accumulation of litter junk trashstagnant water and abandoned vehicles on residential lots hazardous to thepublics health and safety. Work requires discretion and judgment in theapplication of applicable zoning codes and ordinances. General direction isreceived from the Land UseControls Administrator and Assistant Land Use Controls Administrator.

Minimum Qualifications

HighSchool Diploma or G.E.D. and two (2) years of experience in urban planning zoningarchitecture and/or land use planning.

NOTE: Qualifying education training and experiencethat provide the requisite knowledge skills and abilities to perform the jobwill be considered.

Special Requirements

Musthave and maintain a valid Alabama drivers license and insurable driving recordas needed to operate a City vehicle in the inspections of properties. Must obtain an International Code Council(ICC) Zoning Inspector Certification within the first year of employmentbecomeand qualifiedcredentialed Inspector (QCI) within 1 year.

Kind of Examination

Applications are being accepted to fill one (1) vacancy and any vacancies that may occur during the life of the vacancy is with the City of Montgomery Planning Department.Applicants will be screened and qualified based upon education and experience as shown on the application. If more than five qualified applications are received a selection procedure will be administered to rank applicants on the register. Tied scores will not be broken. If there are five or less qualified applicants they will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in alphabetical order.
