In this position youll be working in a remote oasis on the eastern edge of Oregon that boasts a beautiful desert experience on the banks of the Snake Rivers Brownlee Reservoir.
Your New Role
As a Park Ranger 1 youll be on the front lines of park safety maintenance and visitor services. Youll perform:
Park Patrol Safety & Rule Enforcement
Patrol park areas to protect and preserve resources and facilities by checking for misuse undesirable activities and hazardous situations
Seek voluntary visitor compliance with park area rules and regulations; issue verbal and written warnings as necessary
Render emergency aid and assistance to park visitors and prepare related reports
Custodial & Landscape Maintenance
Clean rest rooms showers bathhouses cabins and maintenance shops
Collect and properly dispose of garbage and waste materials
Plant vegetation mow lawns and maintain irrigation systems
Prune trees and shrubs using manual and power tools as well as apply fertilizers and pesticides
Visitor Services & General Park Operations
Accept and process payments for park services
Provide information about local attractions park rules and regulations to visitors
Train and oversee the work of seasonal employees and volunteers ensuring compliance with policies and procedures related to park operations and cash handling
Additional Duties
Building and facility maintenance and construction
Utility system maintenance and construction
Resource interpretation and conservation
Direct teams of volunteers and hosts in park operations and construction

Minimum Qualifications:
Two years of visitor services experience (e.g. rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g. construction trades landscaping)
OR
Associates degree or higher in Park and Recreation Administration Natural Resource Management Environmental Studies and 6 months of visitor services experience (e.g. rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g. construction trades landscaping)
Special Requirements:
To be hired a criminal record and driving record check must be completed that meets OPRD Criteria at the time of hire and throughout employment while also maintaining a valid drivers license.
Must wearOPRDsupplied uniform and comply with appearance code while on duty
Ability to obtain one or more of the following within 90 days of hire:
First Aid/CPR Certification
Enforcement Officer Status
Oregon Marine Board Boat Education Card
Oregon All-Terrain Vehicle Safety Education Card

Desired Attributes:
Professional experience operating tools equipment 4x4 vehicles ATVs and boats.
Experience in rule enforcement and generating voluntary compliance in a park setting.
Ability to work both independently and in a professional parks team setting.
Experience cleaning restrooms maintenance shops and offices.
Ability to work independently in remote wilderness park setting
Experience in promoting a culturally competent and diverse work environment.
Skill in overnight campground operations including but not limited to computer knowledge camper registration cash handling dealing with customer complaints providing exceptional customer service end of shift reports and reconciling paperwork.
