Working directly with the Banking Officer this accountant provides daily support to the cash needs of City & Borough of Juneau (CBJ) Bartlett Regional Hospital(BRH) and Juneau School District (JSD) which includes forecasting and managing cash for the checking account of the central treasury overseeing debt service payments ensuring deposits are allocated to the correct accounting units and codes as well as performing monthly reconciliations.

The Banking Officer and team are actively working to improve processes and streamline workflows as well as building a deep bench through cross training.
The team is active and supports all the departments in the city that handle payments as well as the Juneau School District and Bartlett Regional Hospital.
WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION
This position works Monday through Friday 8:00am 4:30pm. Your office would be located in downtown Juneau at City Hall.
As the Cash Accountant II you will perform complex analysis and reconciliations of CBJs cash and investment accounts working under the direction of the Banking Officer. Primary responsibilities include daily interaction with financial institutions reviewing payments funds received directly through the bank reconciling accounts and preparing journal entries to recognize cash transactions. You will monitor and forecast cash needs as well as making recommendations about transfers of funds. In this position you will interact with CBJs banking and investment vendors as well as staff from within CBJ Bartlett Hospital and Juneau School District.
Solid accounting skills are required as you will be reconciling accounts and transactions as well as the general ledger. Many tasks in this position are performed independently. However a strong team spirit and collaboration will be needed to fully succeed in supporting the cash operations of the city hospital and school district.
In addition to cash management and investments you will perform several debt management tasks including ensuring debt payments are prepared and transmitted accurately and timely assisting in debt reporting as well as responding to and resolving Agent/Trustee debt service transmission questions. Other accounting and forecasting work will be required periodically such as end of year adjusting journal entries developing short and long term revenue forecasts responding to annual audit requests and questions and providing technical professional accounting and financial management support to the Treasury and Controller staff.
Education:
Associates degree in finance Accounting or a related area of study.
Substitution:
Any combination of experience and/or education (i.e. post-secondary related courses occupational endorsement/certificate) that provides the applicant with the knowledge skills and abilities typically gained in an Associates Degree in finance Accounting or related area.

AND
Experience:
One (1) year of professional level experience in accounting financial management auditing accounting system development or accounting system maintenance. This is equivalent to work performed by an Accountant I with the City & Borough of Juneau.
OR
Two (2) years of expert technical work as an Accounting Technician III with the City & Borough of Juneau or the equivalent elsewhere.
