Position Summary
The Chicago School University Library seeks an energetic innovative service-oriented and collaborative professional to serve as an Access Services Associate.
This is a full-time on-campus position primarily located at the Washington D.C. campus of The Chicago School. Remote work may be considered depending on campus operations and library needs. This position works a regular Monday-Friday schedule; occasional weekend coverage may be required.
Reporting to the Head of Access Services Librarian this position provides regular coverage of the library circulation desk in Washington D.C. oversees daily operations for library materials and manages library student employees. Areas of responsibility include circulation reserves Interlibrary Loan stacks management hours and coordination with building operations staff.
This is a supervisory position that directly manages the library student employees (Federal/College Work Study) in Washington D.C. Supervisory responsibilities include hiring training scheduling and direct supervision of library student employees. This position may also assist with remote oversight of student employees at other library locations.
A review of applications will begin immediately until the position is filled. The library is targeting a July 28th start date for this position.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Management
- Hires trains schedules and directly supervises the library student employees (Federal/College Work Study) in Washington D.C.
- Assists with remote oversight of student employees at multiple library locations in cooperation with the Access Services team.
Operations
- Manages the upkeep of physical library locations both in-person in Washington D.C. and remotely for other locations.
- Takes responsibility for circulation of library materials at all locations including reserve materials psychological assessments and Interlibrary Loan materials.
- Performs and assigns routine inventory and shelving maintenance including the return of materials to appropriate locations shelf-reading and materials shifting.
- Assists with special projects and other duties as assigned.
Customer Service
- Fosters an environment of responsive welcoming services and spaces including agile responsiveness to unexpected situations.
- Creates and maintains a safe welcoming and inclusive environment for all library patrons.
- Fosters a respectful and productive work environment.
Research & Instructional Support
- Provides general reference services to students and faculty as needed.

Basic Qualifications
- High school degree or equivalent.
- Minimum of 1-2 years working in customer service.
- Proficiency with basic computer technology and ability to learn technical workflows in new systems.
- Basic knowledge of higher education and willingness to learn more about the academic environment at The Chicago School.
- Knowledge of and ability to adopt practices promoting community for all members of The Chicago School and create a welcoming environment for all.
- Commitment to creating accessible and inclusive library spaces.
Ideal Qualifications
- Associate or bachelors degree or equivalent.
- Experience working in an academic library.
- Experience using an integrated library system (ILS) particularly Ex Libris Alma.
- Experience supporting a psychology or health sciences-focused program ideally in a library position.
- General knowledge of all aspects of Access Services.
- Willingness availability and flexibility to work a combination of daytime evening night and weekend hours if needed.

Compensation & Benefits
This opportunity is budgeted at $21-$25 per hour base compensation. Additional compensation factors may impact total compensation.
