1 Participates in setting standards for patient care and nursing practice in obstetrical nursing. 2 Manages the obstetrical patient and neonate during labor delivery and recovery to include operative procedures. Length of recovery care determined by patient condition minimum two hours. 3 Manages obstetrical medical conditions including preeclampsia eclampsia gestational diabetes pre-term labor premature rupture of amniotic membranes repeat or scheduled cesarean section or the induction or augmentation of labor according to ACOG standards and Gonzales Healthcare Policy. 4 Performs non-stress tests. 5 Provides psychosocial care to the patient and family to include assessment of needs. Provides nursing interventions with complete legible documentation. 6 Develops implements and maintains current maternal/child nursing care policies procedures and practices. 7 Identifies problem areas of patient care and assists in formulating plans of action or taking action to solve them. 8 Actively engages in the development of nursing staff to provide quality maternal/child nursing care. 9 Provides care appropriate for the neonate and the pediatric adolescent and geriatric patients served based on demonstrated knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span. 10 Assesses and interprets data on the neonate and the pediatric adolescent and geriatric patients status to identify adolescent and geriatric patients status to identify patients requirements relative to their age-specific needs and provides care needed as stipulated in departmental policy. 11 Performs admission discharge and daily assessment of all patients on the unit. 12 Assesses and interprets fetal strips. 13 Delegates tasks as appropriate to licensed vocational nurses according to their scope of practice. 14 Assesses the supplies needed and stocks the area at the end of each patient encounter. 15 Assures equipment is maintained in good working condition. 16 19 Uses Professional Nursing behaviors and critical thinking as the basis for decision making in nursing practice. 20 Obtain client history using appropriate collection tools to obtain physical psychosocial spiritual cultural familial occupations and environmental information. 21 Performs basic assessment to identify health status and monitor for change. 22 Collects validates and reports assessment data using established assessment tools. 23 Identifies overt and covert actual and potential healthcare needs of client. 24 Analyzes and interprets health data of clients. 25 Selects nursing diagnosis and develops Plan of Care from a standardized source based upon analysis of health data. 26 Identifies short and long-term goals and selects interventions in conjunction with clients and families. 27 Contributes to evaluates & updates nursing plan of care. 28 Communicates plan of care to nurses and other healthcare providers and establishes goals that are realistic specific measurable and progressive. 29 Compares expected and achieved outcomes of nursing care by modifying plan of care and/or expected outcomes. 30 Promotes a safe effective care environment conductive to the optimal health and dignity of the client. 31 Selects and carries out appropriate activities to assist client to meet basic physiologic needs including oxygenation nutrition circulation elimination activity comfort rest sleep and carries out measures to promote rehabilitation. 33 Selects and carries out appropriate measures to promote psychosocial well-being and fosters client growth during developmental transitions and alterations in health status. 34 Uses independent clinical judgment and established protocols appropriately. 35 Transcribes or co-signs physician orders completely and accurately according to Gonzales Healthcare Systems policy and administers medications and treatments according to Gonzales Healthcare Systems policy. 36 Administers medications and treatments evaluates and documents responses to treatments and medications and communicates same to other healthcare professionals accurately and legibly according to Gonzales Healthcare Systems policy. 37 Completes all appropriate transfer and discharge forms according to Gonzales Healthcare Systems policy. 38 Assists healthcare providers with treatment and procedures. 39 Adjusts priorities for nursing interventions in emergencies. 40 Performs basic nursing procedures and skills safely and effectively. 41 Using the Nursing process develops and implements teaching plan for clients and their families concerning promotion maintenance and restoration of health in a timely manner. 42 Provides for the care of multiple clients and their families through either direct care or assignment and/or delegation of care.
