The Sr. Supervisor of the department is responsible for full operational oversight of the department. This includes but is not limited to all technical aspects personnel management budgetary oversight and regulatory oversight.
Supervises employees in highly technical sub-specialty area. Directly oversees all the technical operations of the laboratory enforcing standard operating procedures and research methods. Responsible for laboratory meeting quality assurance standards.
Involves testing on clinical specimens for information about the health of a patient for the diagnosis treatment and prevention of disease. Disciplines include chemistry blood banking hematology microbiology immunology cytology histology pathology and cytogenetics. May include highly technical sub- specialty areas such as enzyme assay steroid assay radioimmunoassay toxicology electrophoresis rheumatology tissue typing and virology.
Workdays and hours are subject to change pending laboratory needs. The normal working schedule for this position is Monday to Friday day shift typically start at 8:00am to 4:30 pm but hours may vary. The senior supervisor may need to work off shift weekends and holiday work may be required pending laboratory needs. This position is exempt. The senior supervisor must be available to take call outside of the regular day shift when locally available.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $118000 - $268000 (Annual Rate).

Five years of recent experience in the high volume and complexity clinical laboratory with chemistry hematology and transfusion services sections of which at least 3 years must have been in a supervisory positionMaintains current knowledge of laboratory concepts new methodologies and advances in the field of specimen processing automation and proceduresAbility to apply principles in a clinical laboratory settingKnowledge of Clinical Laboratory medical center HR and UC policies and processesThorough knowledge of all relevant sub-specialty area industry health and safety federal and state regulations.Ability to organize assigned staff and laboratory operations in an efficient and effective mannerHighly developed personal organizational skillsKnowledge of quality assurance methods and ability to apply principles to design quality systemsProven ability to multi-task and reliably manage multiple projects through from inception to completion on schedule in a complex challenging environmentFlexibility to adjust to constantly changing prioritiesVerbal and written communication skills to explain technical clinical specialty concepts actively listen persuade advise and counselAbility to use laboratorys application programsSkills to perform data checks using queries visual review and other appropriate means to verify data accuracySkills to evaluate issues and identify solutions within defined procedures and policiesDemonstrated ability to solve problems and suggest solutions through critical thinking processInterpersonal skills to independently convey information with authority handle highly sensitive matters and interact with high level contacts from other organizations- Licensure in specialty area preferred
