The Climate Indicators and Sustainability Dashboard Specialist will support an interdisciplinary effort to develop sustainability metrics and climate indicators for US-Affiliated Pacific Islands. This position situated within the University of Hawaii Sea Grant College Program (Hawaii Sea Grant) collaborates with partners including the Hawaii Green Growth Local2030 Hub Pacific RISA and PIRCA to co-create a data-driven online Sustainability Dashboard modeled after the Aloha Challenge framework. The project promotes capacity building to track adaptation progress and supports regional access to adaptation funding.


Duties and Responsibilities:

The responsibilities and primary functions of the position include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate the development of locally relevant climate and sustainability indicators in one or more Freely Associated States (FAS) using the Aloha Challenge Dashboard as a model.
  • Conduct technical reviews and synthesize findings from regional climate science and sustainability research including both physical and social science sources.
  • Collaborate withPacific Climate Adaptation PartnershipRegional Integrated Sciences and Assessmentsprogramand regional partners to define and track climate-related variables (e.g. technical indicators impact data management actions).
  • Work with Hawaii Green Growths IT staff to design and launch an online dashboard decision support tool.
  • Maintain a comprehensive topical and sectoral bibliography of regional climate references.
  • Engage with community stakeholders in FAS jurisdictions to identify culturally relevant impact data and metrics.
  • Organize and facilitate meetings with partner organizations and stakeholders to co-develop metrics and validate dashboard content.
  • Strengthen and expand stakeholder networks across the Pacific Islands related to sustainability metrics and climate adaptation.
  • Draft reports presentations and other written materials explaining findings methodology and outcomes of the project.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelors degree from a college or university of recognized standing with major work in climate science environmental science policy management or related field.
  • Evidence of ability for successful practice inoutreach andcommunications or public relations.
  • Professionalism in meeting and conferring with others.
  • Experience in research or applied projects demonstrating ability to synthesize diverse findings and collaborate with cross-sector stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and technical writing skills; ability to author reports and briefing materials.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office (Word Excel PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of climate issues in Pacific Island communities.
  • Experience conducting integrated literature reviews of physical and social science data.
  • Experience working with or partnering with a Sea Grant College program or aRegional Integrated Sciences and Assessmentsprogram.


Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience working with governments and communities in Pacific Island regions.
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS and spatial data tools.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team across diverse cultural contexts.
  • Knowledge of the University of Hawaii Sea Grant College Programs mission and strategic priorities.
